A great evening was had at the Farmers Club Bury St Edmunds for the annual Hartest & Coldham Hall Cricket Club dinner and awards evening which was very well attended.
A greeting of Champagne on arrival in a lovely setting made it a great start to the evening with excellent food served up all night.
The first pat on the back goes to Captain William Bryant who with help from his family organised a very good night for the club members and there families who could attend.
The awards for the evening were preceded by an opening speech from the Chairman John Ralling who aptly mentioned the fact that being in the farmers club suited many agricultural shots played by the team!
He went on to thank various people in the club and the fact that the club spirit of friends and good fun were the backbone of the club being as strong as ever.
Before he handed over to Captain William Bryant he thanked the staff of the Farmers Club who had performed admirably during the evening.
Captain William Bryant then took to the floor with the draw being made and then onto the main awards for the evening. He first mentioned there were not many Champagne moments but then probably created a contender for next year when it appeared the Chairman who won a bottle in the draw had taken the prize which went to Dave Armstrong hitting a huge six and had the bottle removed before his very eyes! David said thanks to the Chairman for keeping it safe for 5 Min's.
The bowling award had a twist with a runner up getting a trophy which went to last year's winner John Moriarty but with his first season with the club Dave Armstrong won the honour for Bowler of the season and well deserved.
The batting was a close run pardon the pun thing with only a few runs separating the top three but the runner up was ex Captain Mark Roberts who lost to the legend that is David Hodge again a fully deserved award but Roberts will be no doubt hot on his heels next season.
The Captain went on to give the scorer for the season a lovely bouquet of flowers to Judith Atkinson thanking her for her work during the season and Gus Walton presented her the flowers as well as getting a little kiss x
Also there was Ron and Margaret Speakman who donated a framed photograph along with Stephen Walton unveiling a new honours board and gave a very nice speech on how the youngsters have grown through the last three years into men.
Dave and Jack Armstrong also spoke about how they have enjoyed there first season and how warmly the club have made them feel part of the club.
Captain Bryant and the Chairman both mentioned the Richards family who without there contribution there would be no club and sadly young Jake could not make it was given a H&CHCC shirt to wear with pride.
As I did not make notes [see above] I hope I have mentioned most things but what I can't explain in words was the terrific atmosphere and banter which is all part of the heart of the club.
The website has been updated with some photographs from the night plus Obama can now tell you who has one plus the fixture list and the Friendly with Exning on the 18th of April.
We also have the new Tea Rota on the site so if you want to book your one/two up please speak to Judith and we can pencil it in and try and get the tea rota sorted as much as we can.
We hope to have some training night's soon and will announce them on the site or by text and is likely to be at the Moreton Hall School.
If you want to bring anything up on the site or suggestions then please let me know I will put on the stats for 2009 although most were distributed on the evening and I will add the complete list over the last four seasons.
So to finally finish well done to Captain Bryant and all the people who attended we hope you all had a great night of fun food, if you didn't win an award then the new season is only 90 days away!!!!
