AGM - New Chairman and Vice Chairman

AGM Meeting

The AGM was held at the Bushel Public house on Thursday evening and our thanks to the Pub for giving us the space to hold the meeting which was well attended by most of the main members of the club in officiating capacity.

The agenda was full but was quickly ran through without to many hiccups, the Treasurers' report found the club in decent position along with a Captain's report.

The Groundsman report required a couple of repairs on the mowers and potential to look at either a service or even a new push mower.

Election of officers was the next item on the agenda and with Jon Ralling stepping down last season the natural successor who was Vice Chairman Peter Richards was the natural choice, thus he has become the new Chairman of Hartest and Coldham Hall Cricket Club.

This then left a new space of Vice Chairman to which a unanimous decision to install Dave Armstrong to that position we wish both guys well in their new roles for the club and have no doubts both will be exceptional.

Nick Rutter remained as Treasurer along with David Hodge as Secretary both have been and will surely continue to do a magnificent job in those important roles so vital for a club to function.

Captain Ben Atkinson is also to carry on in his role as a young captain who had a terrific season last year ably supported by his team mates and he relaxed style of having a bit of fun, although the promotion in his first full season in to Division two will be a bit more testing the feeling is that we will do a lot better than the last time we went into that division or was that the alcohol being consumed by then making a difference......we'll see come the summer no doubt.

The Vice Captain is a dual role where former Captain Mark Roberts will continue and very valuable that knowledge he has but also was very pleasing to announce that Richard Carter has become a joint Vice Captain another man who has been around a bit with vast experience, both guys will be called upon no doubt within the season to have their chance to shine.

Nick Rutter will continue to break a few arm and legs, oh I mean collect the match fees and fines which is still a maximum of two pounds plus an eight pound match fee same as the last year or two but Nick will have the common sense call where sometimes we have students or guys who have made up the numbers to lower this amount etc.

The any other business which actually the match fees came up in also saw the teas mention that Judith Atkinson would help to collate a tea roster with the nine home games we have plus a withdraw of fees for teas as nobody took them when offered which ultimately helps the club, again the teas we have are just superb, time and again I mention this but I will continue to do so, our cricket is very up and down but the teas are winners all day long, thank you to all but can I ask if you can sort out a date with Mrs A that would be super.

End of Season dinner plus AGM for next season was discussed with the view of having the end of season dinner plus awards at a month or so probably late September just after the season has finished plus the AGM to be held before Christmas with Secretary David Hodge having to get names in the League handbook, nobody objected to this and that both events will happen in the new time scales.

David also mentioned that the League are now going to use two new balls a game so although in the first year a subsidy from the league to keep the costs down everybody felt a new ball per innings was long overdue, again time will tell on that one.

Child Protection is an item that may have to be looked at where Niall in his role he is at University may be asked to attend a free course or anyone wishing to volunteer will be required as a mandatory position for all clubs to have such a delegate.

Confirmation of the first fixture with our good friends at Exning will be on the 19th April with a 1 O'clock start, along with fixture lists given out but all fixtures are on the website, this brought up the net practise and a few things were discussed on getting the net put up along with some repairs plus another strip to be cut for that purpose of some pre season practice, the idea of hiring a hall was thought it was a good idea but that insufficient numbers making it would deem it an expensive waste of money when we can do more at the Richards Oval.

Along the way was many a story and joke the above are the bones of an enjoyable evening with a few apologies for people not attending and the Captain finished off with some good news that Ron Speakman [ and Margaret] had come out of hospital following his illness and hopefully we will seem them both up at the Oval supporting us when they can come the new season.

A vague attempt to answer the quiz that was going on then a massive fight and brawl broke out...............no course not just wondered if anyone read this far down, the new season is not far away, let's make some more great memories and fun moments, life isn't a dress rehearsal, almost forgot, the Webmaster somehow kept his job, see you all soon.
