HCCC 138 all out
M. Atkinson 33 J Rawling 30, B. Atkinson 17
Great Cornard 140 for 6
Barlow 38 not out, Lewis 31.
P Richards 4 - 28
Vice Captain Hodge for the first half of the game due to Captain Mark Roberts and his Rosie celebrating his Son Archie Christening earlier in the day congratulations to you all, lost the toss and HCCC were asked to bat.
Hodge asked the team to take time and get to about 160 for a competitive score. He opened with M. Atkinson and sadly for Hodge got a brut of a ball which swung away and clipped his off stump for 0. J. Nixon and M.Atkinson saw off some serious swing bowling with the new ball and humid heavy conditions. Scoring was very slow as the Bowling was very tight and accurate with a moving ball. Sadly Nixon having done the hard part was caught at mid off for 10.
J. Rawling finally got his season off a start and scored a brisk 30 before being caught off a top edge. Scoring was slow and the runs were hard to come by and B. Atkinson [17] came in and hit the ball well before M. Atkinson was finally bowled for 33 in the 29th over and the score on 103 for 4. It was at this point that a batting collapse occurred with only N. Hannan and N. Rutter in the low order scoring 13 not out and 8 respectively.
HCCC were all out in the 35 over for 138. 22 short of target and 5 overs still to be bowled this was to cost us in the end of the game.
HCCC fielding and energy and never give up attitude help keep the game close and some inspired bowling from P. Richards 4 for 28 and good support bowling from Hodge at one stage had the visitors at 59 for 5 but a partnership of 74 between Lewis 31 and Barlow 38 not out saw Great Cornard home at the end of the 39th over which seemed closer than it was the fact that HCCC failed to get those extra runs and bat out the overs led to this defeat.
G. Walton bowled for his first time in a HCCC shirt and got a wicket well deserved after a good catch from Captain Roberts late on.
HCCC also had there largest crowd in for some time and was thoroughly entertained.
HCCC now have two away fixtures and the first being away to Brockley on the 27th May 2007.
