HCCC beat top of Table Edwardstone

HCCC 141 all out

Ralling 50, Gwatkin 29.

Edwardstone 116 all out

Keys 31, Young 23, Croome 19 not out.

Captain Roberts won the toss and decided to bat and with M Atkinson out through injury Hodge opened with Ralling who went onto have an interesting match and was man of the match with a brave score of fifty a great one handed catch and a painful blow to his eye while fielding in attempting a diving stop which resulted him leaving the field of play.

Wickets fell early and a partnership of 39 between Ralling and Moriarty got HCCC to 68 before the latter was bowled. Runs were a premium and with extras mounting up a score of 30 and a quick hit 29 from Gwatkin with good support from Walton got the score to 141 all out a creditable score and consistent with rececnt games with a slow outfield.
Edwardstone took to the field and a early wicket from Hannan had the visitors on 16 for 1 and then a league law saw Hannan removed from the attack due to age restrictions and this brought on Moriarty who was on a hatrick from the last two balls of the previous game and the script had been written with Hannan taking a great catch over his shoulder to give the emotional Moriarty a hatrick as he fell to the floor in joy or pain as it was another jug in the Swan later!

A 35 run partnership was building before a stunning one handed catch by Ralling ended the very dangerous Young for 23. The other danger man Keys was beginning to break out as the Edwardstone team had to as the tight bowling was putting pressure on and backed up with some good team fielding where every run was precious to save that a big wicket was of Keys bowled by Moriarty for 31.

With Gwatkin taking over from the injured Richards went onto mop up the tail with 3 wickets and a run out with some smart work by B Atkinson behind the stumps who bye tally was 2 compared to 12 from Edwardstone makes differences and the sharpness in the field which resulted in Ralling to be injured with a nasty cut above the eye and the sub fielder Bill Hannan going onto replace him showed the great team spirit to win through and beat the unbeaten top of table Edwardstone and secure the 20 points!

Another home game with Mellis the visitors in a league game next week before the tour weekend, its an exciting time to be involved with the mighty Hartest & Coldham Hall criket team.

A timely knock from Jonners and a late cameo from Jamie followed by accurate bowling ensured a second succesive win yesterday.
Mozza hit the headlines again by completing his hat trick which he started last week.
The real reason for our victory was not the above mentioned but the fact the silly HCCC flag was not there. The flag has a very unimpressive record-- Flying at 5 matches (2 in Australia) won 0 lost 5. No coincidence therefore that the flag has been absent for the last 2 games! Shame really because it cost Mozza and I an arm and a leg!
Well done to all - let's try to make it three from three next week.
Hope Jonners face is ok and his good looks are not ruined forever.

The captain defends his decision to push young Benjamin up the order to nomber 3. Although this might seem an elvevated position for one so young, the captain felt that the fact that Ben could bat without the pressure of being not very many for 3 or 4 wickets down, therefore allowing Ben to take his time and build an innings.Sadly for Benjamin and the skipper the gamble did not work. However the skipper feels that experience of batting at different places in the order and are beneficial. Anyone have any comments?
