HCCC Uses Get out of Jail Free Card
HCCC 136 all out
27.1 overs
D Hodge 65 Not Out, Roberts 20
Game abandoned to Rain Storm.
On an overcast humid day Captain Roberts won the toss and decided to bat first which seemed the sensible thing to do but the batting with only one super exception failed through some excellent opening bowling by Tuddenham especially from the lively Campbell who generated a sharp pace with a combination of control and the slope proved a difficult bowler indeed.
David Hodge saved HCCC blushes again and needs more support than he got with the exception of Captain Roberts who was run out or was he? Well his runner was out to a direct throw after a knee injury to the captain for 20.
David Hodge did the very rare thing of carrying his bat through the innings ending on 65 not out in a total of 136 all out, but with 30 extras and the 20 from Roberts the next high score was 7 from M Atkinson and the ever improving N Rutter.
With one rain stop in there for 15mins tea was taken at 4.30 and while in for tea HCCC played the Quote P Richards “GET OUT OF JAIL FREE CARD” as it rained and rained like a tropical storm with thunder and lightening thrown in where in 10 minutes the square and outfield were covered with water with no hope of HCCC taking to the field.
Well done David Hodge and although unlikely to be in the records I think your team mates will not forget that you had a great innings and carried your bat too.
The Captain has asked the Webmaster to mention one or two things.
1. There is very likely to be a game of cricket on Saturday 8th of September 2007 either an away fixture versus Tuddenham or Home to Bury.
2. More urgently a game on Saturday 28th of July versus The Bushman in a friendly at Home please contact Jez or Captain Roberts if you would like to play as this is an opportunity to play in a very friendly game. Make yourself known don't wait for the call, you make it.

Well, I think that we were lucky to have the weather intervene after scoring far too low a total. I am still far too upset to think about the batting suffice to say that I was on my way to a certain century!
The game is definitely now taking place on Sat 8th Sept and we may well be playing Bury the next day - luickily we will be ok because we have such a fit and athletic squad.
Looking forward to Bury next week.
Could I draw William's attention to a book by Boycs - "Cricket made easy (even for the simple)" which deals with the extremely complicated issues of cricket, including who calls and when. Sore? Me? Never!
See you Sunday
