HCCC 184 all out
J Ralling 60, D Hodge 60, M Atkinson 17.
Durery 5 for 64.
Horringer 186 for 8
Unwin 78,Nickson 39, Roberts 1.
This very enjoyable Friendly against Horringer was a classic game of Cricket with a few twists along the way the first beginning with the skipper Roberts playing for the opposition with Nickson also down to possible play for HCCC but with Horringer short of players the duo were drafted in.
Vice Captain Hodge took over and promptly lost the toss and HCCC were put in on a green wicket with all the rain over the last week, well done Peter and Jake for getting the pitch ready.
With the chance of experiments to try with the game being a friendly Bryant and B Atkinson opened the batting but both were soon to be back in the hutch.
Hodge and Ralling came together and with a great stand of 118 on an outfield with long grass the boundaries were harder to reach and the running of singles and twos were very much in evidence with Ralling excellent innings of 60 and holed out to of course Roberts who sprint into make a sliding catch was ironic but also Hodge who also scored 60 with a great knock also falling to a catch by of course Roberts.
With only M Atkinson [17] and N Rutter [10] getting into double figures the HCCC innings closed on 184 all out.
Roberts and Nickson opened the Horringer innings and it was no surprise that Roberts was caught by Bryant in of course cow corner for 1. Nickson and Seabrook put on a decent and steady stand of 48 before the devilish spin of N Rutter bowled Seabrook for 31 middle stump.
B Unwin joined Nickson and put on 84 runs before Nickson was out for 39 but Unwin was in prime form where spin or slow paced bowling was working Unwin was hitting big and 8 sixes in his innings of 78 before he was caught by M Ralling where else but on the deep long on boundary.
The tail was exposed but with so few runs required J Ralling and Hodge bowling with again a trait of the whole season the fielding kept Horringer sweating on getting those last few runs to win.
The last over was bowled by Rutter with the last pair at the crease and only requiring 5 runs to win the ball just didn’t go to a HCCC fielder and with only two balls in the last over Horringer got over the winning line.
HCCC now move on a more important game that of Mellis away where they play is to be confirmed by Secretary Hodge but please note that we are going into September and it will be a 1 PM start.
Just a footnote away from the game to N Rutter and family for there loss this past week our thoughts are with you and we all hope things go well over the next couple of weeks.

A slightly worrying note. It seems that Bury are trying to arrange a rearranged fixture v Stansfield on the same day that they were due to play us (sept 9th), having already agreed with Hodgey to play us! I think that this must be against the spirit of the game. They must be seeking to rearrange the Stansfield fixture instead of us because on paper it would be an easier fixture for them. I thought they were rude for not claping batsmen in, but now I think they are rude cowards that.............
More to follow
I think Hodgey is speaking to them again soon.
Skip.
I think that if they refuse to play us that Fatty should pen an email to the league
