Sad loss of Shane Warne

H&CHCC Withers at Withersfield

Withersfield 222 for 7

Talbot 52 Not Out, Giles 37.

Gwatkin 4-64

H&CHCC 144 All Out

Hodge 89, Gwatkin 35

Captain Roberts lost the toss and H&CHCC were asked to bowl on a cool with sunny interval type of day and little swing it was going to be line and length.

Hodge and Walton opened the bowling with Hannan catching a well taken catch off the bowling of Hodge.

The next four batsmen formed decent partnerships 49, 27, 12, and 22 using up the overs steadily with only the bowling of Gwatkin 4 for 64 posing any problems and the steady consistent Richards 2 for 47 but Withersfield hit out with wickets in hand towards the end of the innings and 64 in the last five overs took the score to a very good 222 for 7.

They must have read my cricketing thoughts as a well paced team effort left H&CHCC a very difficult challenge especially as the balls were lost and they started there innings off with a brand new ball Christmas come early for them.

In reply Hodge and Richards opened the batting and wickets tumbled with some reasonable pace and not much resistance until Gwatkin joined Hodge at this time 37 for 5 was probably a lost cause but superb credit to Hodge and Gwatkin for putting on 90 partnership with Gwatkin run out with the score on 128 the tail collapsed pretty quickly with the ultimate professional Hodge batting on and nearly carrying his bat until to be caught hitting out to reach his second century of the season alas he fell on 89 and scoring two thirds of the final score of 144.

Two defeats in a row and slipping from top to third and gaining 5 points will no doubt move H&CHCC to mid table but we must stop the slide soon with a tricky away game at Mellis and Haverhill home in the next two fixtures some hard work is still required to secure our place in Division two for next season.

With 3 ducks it must have be crowded around the kit bag when it was time to go home but onward and upward and next week is going to a new ground and should be something to look forward to so No Fear, Think, and Enjoy = Win.

Markie the Webmaster has taken the information off B Atkinson and J Atkinson as his injury still sidelines him frustratingly and the score book.
PS Hey you don’t want me to remind you since my injury you have lost and I am high up in the averages do you? Come on guys winning is a habit lets get it back on track! Prove you don’t need me please.

Batting Coach.

Perhaps net practices up at the pitch one evening might be a good idea as runs win matches and help with the pitch too.

Gus opened the bowling - not Niall

I thought we fielded extremely well yesterday. Niall took a great catch to dismiss the big hitting opener and indeed I believe that we didn't drop a catch all day.
Hodgey and Jamie batted extremely well, unfortunately the rest of us did not!
To sum up, we were beaten by a far better side of cricketers.

We are struggling for a side next week (A) to Mellis. We only have 9
