Mellis Melts H&CHCC Efforts

Mellis 238 for 6

Farrant 110, Spence 39,

Hodge 3 for 39, Delmar 2 for 79

H&CHCC 153 All Out

B Atkinson 30, Hanan 30, Roberts 29, Walton Not Out 20!

A new ground for Hartest and Coldham Hall but a familiar story that Captain Roberts lost the all important toss on a very hot sunny day which was to prove crucial with a long innings in the field will test the fittest of squads.

Our good friend Farrant opened the batting and not quite his cavalier style due to one of two new players James Dutch opening bowling spell kept him in check however could not remove him and he went on to be the main stay of the innings.

Like buses two came at once wickets that is with Hodge and Dutch both getting wickets caught behind by Ben Atkinson Wicket Keeper who pardon the pun had a hand in five of the six wickets with four catches and one stumping.

The prize wicket of Farrant was taken by the other debutant Sam Delmar who had him bowled for 110 but he was well supported in two partnerships of over 60 with Spence 39, and Arnold not out 24 after the 40 overs in searing heat Mellis had a total of 238 for 6.

Hodge and Richards opened and after a long stint in the field did not get of to the best of starts with both being back in the marquee [yes that is right I was informed] and Captain Roberts with Ralling putting on a swift 34 partnership before Roberts was joined by B Atkinson still in buoyant mood with his glove work and H&CHCC most productive in runs spell with Roberts out for 29 Dutch 8 with B Atkinson and later Hannan both getting 30 each.

Wickets were tumbling and the run rate was getting away from a valiant effort and a surprising 20 not out by Gus Walton who vies for the number eleven spot pushed up the total to achieve a very valuable batting point which is deemed more important in any team having an equal average, well done Gus.

Nick Rutter with his first time of being dismissed this season ended the H&CHCC innings with a total of 153 all out and picked up a better points total compared to the last few weeks with 6.

Next Week H&CHCC take on high flyer's Haverhill where perhaps the six runs we lost to them will be reversed. We need a couple more wins before the season is out to confirm our place in are inaugural season in Division Two at home we are strong and must be so again.
