A Packed Boxted Hall saw a great night to catch up with friends and all the latest news of members of the mighty Hartest & Coldham Hall Cricket Club.
A lovely meal in a superb setting and ambiance led to a great night of fun and laughter which perhaps so typifies the heart of the club.
It was also the last act of the out going Captain Mark Roberts to hand over to William Bryant for next season 2009.
Robbo gave a short speech about how Division Two suited us and how well we have done in the 4 years of his Captaincy from escaping relegation on the last game of the season which nearly saw Division 5 but from there he led us to promotion two years in a row and hold our own from very much same squad in Division Two.
But it was not a night of sadness but to give out some awards and the Champagne moments were for three players who hit some big sixes and fair to say they would not always be the people you would expect too.
Below are the photographs of Ian Copping, Gus Walton and Jordan Marlow receiving there bottles of Champagne from Captain Roberts.
The batting trophy went to David Hodge and nobody could deny he was an overwhelming deserved recipient of the trophy.
Just as deserved was John Moriarty for the bowling award well done mozza I m sure your office should be proud of your achievements for your high class quality bowling.
There are below pictures of the awards and another for David Hodge for getting another hundred during the season with some crystal cut glass for his efforts.
The Tea Ladies and Gents who helped including many club members like Peter Richards his good lady Kate and son Jake for many hours on the pitch plus Nick Rutter, Judith Atkinson for many jobs at the pavilion and scoring were all mentioned for thanks and praise all duly deserved.
Most people connected to the club do help in there own way and when it all gets added up it usually means the club has a big heart and is always a great place to be on a Sunday afternoon.
If I have forgotten anyone please forgive me there were a lot of thanks going on but we all appreciate all the help that people do for the club.
Moving on to 2009 Captain Bryant gave a short speech thanking Mark Roberts and hoping that the club will move into a new era and I am sure that William will not be alone if help is needed.
Gus Walton has managed to get some training dates for the new season which are above and near the top of the website to be held at Moreton Hall School this year not Culford.
Training has started for semi pro clubs already and although we play hard but for fun we must with 4 sessions booked plus one friendly need these date in the diary and to make as many training dates as possible.
We started last year well with similar pre season but we need to hit the ground running some teams were very surprised by us and will not be caught out a second time so we must as the scouts say be prepared!
I have mentioned that this is a club website and any input will be always appreciated comments or anything you may want to see on it will be vetted just in case but pass on the site to friends family and get people talking about the club and that people would like to visit and support our great little club. Who knows we might find a sponsor!
If you know anyone who wants to come along to the net practice please feel free to invite them there is no commitment on either side but we may need to bolster the squad with injuries Jez and myself will be long term and holidays plus the harvesting time can leave us short.
To sum up thank you Mark & Rosie Roberts for the last few years [and the next few as well] good luck to Captain Bryant and his vice captains and players with all the family support and time but hoping that 2009 will be again another fun season with some new memories to take with us in these difficult times in the world.
