H&CHCC Suffer Heavy Defeat at Nowton

H&CHCC 125 All Out

Roberts 31, B Atkinson 26, Bryant 14, M Atkinson 12,

Nowton 128 for 2

K Howes 69 Leeks 47 Not Out.

H&CHCC Suffered a heavy defeat at Nowton not a ground that has ever been a lucky hunting ground and so it proved today with Hamish Fiddes pulled out late with a broken toe and Gus Walton broken Ribs and damaged shoulder playing rounders those girls are tough!

Late call ups for Archie Fiddes & Mark Atkinson to get a team on the park and when the toss was also lost Nowton decided to insert H&CHCC into bat.

Roberts & Hodge opened as usual but the unusual start to Hodge carrying a hand injury was soon to continue as he was bowled by Ward early on with the score on six.

Roberts and Ben Atkinson steadied the ship with considered play but when they did score it was in boundaries including a six for Roberts.

Shortly after Roberts was bowled by the old war horse Rolfe for thirty one this brought out Mark Atkinson to join his son Ben Atkinson and again a steady period ensued.

Ben Atkinson was the next to go being caught off a full ball for a creditable 26 and the score in the mid 70s which historically many more than they have got in the past.

Mark Atkinson was caught down by fine leg for 12 and Captain Bryant soon followed for 14 and the tail was well and truly exposed which tried to wag but a scratchy few runs from the Armstrong's, Thorp, and Richards most were bowled.

Archie Fiddes was last man in and survived three balls which gave Nick Rutter the chance which was taken to nick a single to give H&CHCC a batting point which looked like it was going to be used as the total did stop when Fiddes was bowled next ball ending the innings in the thirty fourth over for a 125 all out.

Nowton came out and started the run chase partly the way they play and a small chance of rain and the outfield was very fast with not the biggest ground and the signs looked very ominous for H&CHCC.

Hodge bowled Godden for 8 but Howes was looking solid in his first game for Nowton and when big hitting Leeks came in and straight away took the Hartest attack to task the game was heading to a premature end within 20 overs as the bowlers were changed but runs were coming fast and the total they were chasing was appearing way short of anywhere near a competitive score.

Howes had sailed past his half century was flowing when with only a few runs required Captain Bryant brought on Mark Roberts who with his fist ball had Howes dropped but the next ball the young batsman skied up a high ball to be well caught by Dave Armstrong and importantly give H&CHCC a bowling point.

Soon after the Nowton team duly completed the run chase with a miss field on the boundary to win the game in the twenty first over and before the rain that looked like it might come like H&CHCC had evaporated.

H&CHCC must re group and have a run of home games with a few injuries they must take this as a unfortunate typical Nowton away fixture where often they seem to be beaten and well must move on to face Lakenheath if they can muster a team as they have yet to fulfil a fixture this season.
