H&CHCC WIN AWAY FOR TWO IN A ROW

MATCH SPONSOR - BURCO & Dave Reed - Thank You!

H&CHCC 178 All Out

Hannon 34, Copping 20, Bryant 19,

BSSSC 148 All Out

J Armstrong 6 for 29

Hartest & Coldham Hall were ravaged with injuries, holidays and work commitments plus players playing with injuries were fearing the worst when BSSSC had won the toss and inserted H&CHCC especially at 41 for 3 after twelve overs.

Roberts, Bryant and Mark Atkinson had all gone relatively cheaply on a very green wicket clearly watered as it stood out from the yellow outfield where the opening bowlers were making the ball talk with swing and seam movement.

A key part of the game came when opener Hannan was joined by Ian Copping both starting the season late were rusty but their vital partnership was by way a very important factor in the game.

The pair were staying around showing some great patience skill and some good fortune plus moving the score steadily upwards and getting a foot in the game which was the foundation needed. The 13 overs accrued between them a 60 run partnership before a miscue saw Copping lob one up for mid off to catch out for 20.

Hannan contined his vigilant stay with support from the tail and sudden believe and second bowlers now on the tide was turning Peter Richards was only just back from injury got a swift 10 and also the extras were mounting up by still being on the pitch batting.

Hannan was finally out caught for 34 very valuable runs and the occupation of the crease and probably made him joint man of the match without his contribution H&CHCC would not have come out on top of this match.

Gus Walton had a mixed day but in the end passed as although nearly getting run out three times in one ball and giving two other chances somehow he stayed with Jack Armstrong the other man of the match who was later to do his bit but with the bat this young man very serious sometimes scored a majestic 17 with Walton 13, and when joined by his Dad another flurry of runs with Dave Armstrong scoring 13.

With overs running out Jordan Marlow still carrying an injury fought hard to stay in with Jack Armstrong taking as many runs as he could with overs running out and BSSSC being a bit demoralized in the field.

Jim Marlow followed his brother in a very late replacement for the injured Nick Rutter and his attitude got him a run plus a two on the last ball where Jack dived in but was given run out on the last ball of the innings for 178 a tremendous score which filled the team with confidence that was a score they could defend.

After tea H&CHCC set about the task in hand with Walton and Jack Armstrong opening the bowling with great vigour.

The second over brought a super ball from Jack Armstrong running up the hill but generated great pace to bowl Rout for 0 which brought in the danger man Ritchie Partridge who scored a ton against H&CHCC in the reverse fixture earlier in the season but Walton produced a stunning ball which Partridge edged and Mark Atkinson took a one gloved catch behind the stumps and the score was on 10 for 2.

This buoyed the H&CHCC team to greater things and soon after Jack Armstrong struck again bowling Vaughan for seven and the H&CHCC were ecstatic as the feeling that another wicket or two would expose the tail a long way from the total required.

Taylor and G Rout were beginning to form a strong partnership when both settled looking secure a moment that can change matches occurred with Jack Armstrong bowling so well that he had a lose ball which could have been close to a no ball height was hit very firmly by G Rout that Captain Bryant instinctively put his hand up and smack the ball stuck which saw the end of G Rout for 16 but the total score of 51 for 4.

H Rout came in and with Jack Armstrong matching his best with five wickets he made his own history by claiming his sixth wicket for only 29 runs conceded a terrific effort and looked plain sailing for the H&CHCC boys to coast to victory.

The fielding was very good until the game seemed in the bag and then some slack work all over led BSSSC a glimmer of hope as Ahmed and first Vaughan then J Marwood were not hitting it to all parts but were like H&CHCC grinding out runs and suddenly with the bowlers completing their allocated overs things were getting a little bit tighter.

Jim Marlow had earlier caught Taylor out but three very difficult catches were put down in this part of the game however Walton who was battling his demons with the fact he could not find the rhythm of the last few weeks changed ends but still found it difficult but although upset by himself kept plugging away and won through by bowling D Vaughan.

76 to 100 to 131 When Mark Roberts had come on to bowl claimed his first victim by forcing an error from Ahmed when he chipped back to Roberts but J Marwood was hitting a few boundaries even though time was running out it was Roberts who finally bowled Marwood out for 18 and closing the innings on 148 all out.

Thirty run victory and it was worth noting that the extras given away by BSSSC was 39 and good fielding with discipline can win you matches as batting the full compliment of overs allocated.

A Second great away victory for H&CHCC where every player contributed to the victory and with a scratched up patch up team a very good win again with super team spirit with the desire to do the best we can so well done and take this attitude into every game you ever play.
