MATCH SPONSOR IANS 121 PERSONAL TRAINING THANK YOU JEREMY ROSE

H&CHCC 193 FOR 8

P Richards 85, S Faiers 45 not out, Mark Roberts 35

Lakenheath 194 for 4

J Toffs 84, T Dupe 50, G Fletcher 47 not out.

On a wet wicket drying fast Captain Bryant lost the toss and were asked to bat first with a big pitch boundaries seemed to be difficult and Lakenheath only had ten men plus being bottom of the table another win was in H&CHCC own hands surely?

Roberts opened with Hannaon with Roberts the aggressor early on but shots that would normally be a four were at best two and with Hannon falling early the return from injury Ben Atkinson arrived at the crease but looked short of match practice even though he got eight before being caught leaving H&CHCC on 28 for two.

In form back off a fifty last week was Peter Richards who together with Roberts steadied the ship get to 57 when Lakenheath brought on Pete Tobbet who caused havoc among the middle order first victim was Roberts for a good 35 and then the scalp of the Captain Bryant for one.

Mark Atkinson came to join Richards like last week it was the start of a recovery to victory however a LBW decison on Atkinson's first ball sent him back to the pavilion soon to be followed by Copping for same score leaving H&CHCC on 75 for six.

Shaun Faires joined Peter Richards and the pendulum began to swing back into H&CHCC favour as the two batsmen started to find runs with boundaries with great frequency with Peter Richards getting to another fifty hitting a six.

Shaun Faires back from retirement this season has been getting better and better looked very confident with Richards turning back the clock looking every inch a quality player the pair put on 96 runs before Richards who was tiring going for some big shots plus an enormous six straight over the bowler head fell just fifteen runs short of a great century as he was caught by Tobbet for 85.

With only six overs left Shaun Faiers took on lead roll and although the wickets tumbled trying to get to as big a total the innings ended on 193 for 8 with Shaun Faiers not out 45.

The score looked like a get out of jail score from the position H&CHCC found themselves in earlier and with confidence took to the field but they were not over confident just thought that Lakenheath with a few old heads and a lot of youngsters would struggle to get to the target set however the game was about to slowly swing back again.

Father with son Dave and Jack opened the bowling giving the openers all sorts of trouble plus scoring very few runs as the overs were going by both were very economical however both openers were defiant by keeping their wicket intact.

Just before drinks at 20 overs Toffs got to his half century but the score was only 72 at the half way stage but with wickets in hand with Dave Armstrong bowled out Mark Roberts came on with the old H&CHCC problem cropping up again with two or three catches being dropped the opening pair pushed up the run chase another notch.

Lakenheath were slowly creeping up to a winning position and Captain Bryant brought back Jack Armstrong who finally bowled a peach of a delivery to clip the top of the off stump and young T Dupe who just got to his fifty was out on 118 for 1 with 13 overs to go still.

Toffs was joined by season professional Fletcher and between them they began to take the game back to Lakenheath with some big hitting again with a chance being put down the H&CHCC new things were not going their way today.

Peter Richards came onto bowl as held up one end well got some joy when Toffs was finally out in the deep by Ben Atkinson for 84 however he knew the game was in the bag as Fletcher carried on until he to was caught by Copping for 45 with only 4 runs required it was a bonus to get a run out and secure another bowling point.

The end came in the 37th over when Ben Atkinson bowling strayed down the leg side for a wide the game was over and great credit goes to Lakenheath although I doubt it will save them from relegation but any small hopes H&CHCC had of achieving promotion has certainly gone now.
