SUPER BRYANT LIFETIME BEST
Hartest and Coldham CC - 237 All Out
William Bryant 113 Not Out
15 x Sixes 2 x Fours [Power Hitting simply at it's Best]
96 Partnership with Nick Rutter - Last Wicket Stand Rutter 1.
[Webmaster - These things do not happen often it was his first appearance this season after the arrival of Benjamin who will no doubt hear all about it on his first game attended in years to come and it was simply superb hitting so many big sixes and keeping the strike ably assisted by Nick Rutter- fantastic, you needed to see to believe, well done William Bryant - Take a Bow Son!!]
Cavendish CC - 241 - 3
A Tatum 88 Not Out.
On a cloudy day the Captain Roberts won the toss and batted with a few extras from the Cavendish opening bowlers both Roberts and the returning Hodge built a good foundation until Roberts found a diving fielder taking a good catch to dismiss him for 9 with the score on 29.
Jon Ralling didn't take to long to join in and plundered a few well timed shots with Hodge to take the score to 57 in 9 overs but sadly chased a wide ball got an edge to send him back to the pavilion for 21.
Vice Captain Ben Atkinson came in and with Hodge played sensible cricket taking the score onto 105 within 15 overs but a sharp catch from the bowler took Hodge out for 25, this was the beginning of a dip with a mix up ran out Ash Konacca for nought, then still on his mind Ben Atkinson was caught tamely for 34.
A rash of wickets fell as Bryant who changed his bat before his faced a ball siting it was broken then took out the mongoose much to a bit of derision of the home team in a good banter way.
Ex Captain Bryant found himself with Nick Rutter the stalwart number eleven 141 for 9 he had already had a ball clip the stumps but the bails were not dislodged, then a early skier where the fielder was slow to get under it and rusty due to a new family arrival being the first game didn't exude that the total was going to be much more, but boy oh boy were we in for a treat, a rare short 30 minutes of pure genius.
It is difficult to really do it justice, quoting the numbers does not describe how far the six hitting was, the bowling was good, it was there first team bowlers, the ball travelled high and far many times, awesome is not enough, pure power hitting with also managing to get the single to keep Nick Rutter off strike but great credit to Nick, when called upon he stood up and survived much to the disappointment of the home team.
Sailed passed fifty then his second fifty with a huge six to bring a large cheer from his fellow teammates as for the first time got to a magical three figures which the joy on his face said 30 years of trying finally he done it and in the William Bryant way of doing it.
15 Sixes, a partnership of 96 with number eleven Nick Rutter was simply magical but alas Nick was caught out but the march into the pavilion at tea with his young daughter running out giving him a big hug, the Cavendish team congratulating him on his terrific knock leading them in will no doubt stay with him for the rest of time.
After a good tea and calming down the Cavendish team began there enormous task of chasing the total of 237 down and within the first over a the openers took a second run but Steve "Ghost" Ryder threw in quickly over the stumps with Jon Ralling taking the bails off, a wicket down all looking good.
Burton was joined by F Jack and with the large chase set about the task rather to well with some big hitting and the outfield surprisingly quick getting to 72in the tenth over but Ryder bowled a ball cut by Burton straight to M Atkinson to catch to break the partnership.
Jack was beginning to dominate getting stronger backed up by A Tatum, moving the ball around but keeping well above the required run rate, Hodge got Jack out LBW for 62 which brought in Narayman but he settled in fast building up a formidable partnership between singles and boundaries they were well ahead of schedule, however hard the bowlers tried they could not break this partnership until again Ryder bowled and caught M Atkinson Narayman was out for 62 damaged done.
With five overs to spare the home side Cavendish passed the Hartest and Coldham total with much credit to them, it was a good spirited game with so many runs scored but even though the result went against Hartest and Coldham the memory of the blistering power smashing, thumping, strike play from Bryant will stick for a long time, sad it could not win the game as it justly deserved too but that is sport, it giveth in one hand and take in another.
