Tuddenham win Battle of the Basement.

Tuddenham 163 for 8

Tatum 5-43

Hartest and Coldham Hall CC   127 All Out

Coverdale 5-19

D Armstrong 36, B Atkinson 29.

New Captain Ben Atkinson's first game in charge ended in defeat but a game that the home team felt they could have won but a crucial catch deep on the boundary of Hodge proved a pivotal moment.

The new Captain won the toss and decided to bowl first with Tuddenham scoring 163 for 8 the mainstay of their innings was T Harris who scored 58 before falling to the returning Dan Tatum.

Dan Tatum bowled very well taking 5 wickets for 43 an excellent performance but the result all depended on Hartest getting a good start with the bat.

Hodge & Roberts started the charge scoring freely setting down a good foundation with Tuddenham already guarding the boundaries but Roberts looking in decent form free from his Captain duties looked to have the measure of the Tuddenham attack.

However he mistimed a shot only to be caught for 24 this brought out the Captain for his first time and played responsibly with Hodge carrying on the early good work from Roberts.

The crucial moment came when Hodge went for a big shot it looked like it was heading for a maximum but a fielder who seemed to have got underneath it stuck his hands up to hold a very good catch leaving the home side 75 for two.

Young bowler Coverdale came on and took two wickets in his first over while the skipper looked on this brought David Armstrong to the crease who played very well with Skipper Atkinson but as there seemed to be a chance of recording the first win of the season the Captain had his bail clipped off ending his innings for a creditable 29.

Only Dave Armstrong kept the home team in the contest but  Coverdale supported by Gould kept Tuddenham in the box seat and when Armstrong was bowled for a super knock of 36 the end was nigh.

Coverdale completed his five wicket haul ending the Hartest and Coldham innings for 127 so the elusive first win is put on hold until next week where the team head off to Haverhill which will be a David v Goliath encounter.
