Rained off at Melford
Hartest and Coldham Hall CC 64 for 2
Roberts 20, Richard Pearson Not Out 33
Match Abandoned due to Rain.
Grey day with light rain turning heavy was the forecast and sadly they were right which soon ended the match.
Long Melford won the toss and put Hartest into bat and with a few players away we were looking to get eleven players on the pitch and Charlie Long brought his long term friend over who could bat a bit and in tradition was chucked in the deep end to open the batting with little to no match practice behind him.
To say the least he took to it like a duck to water and in the weather was very apt plus no ducks in the cricketing zero sense.
Roberts was his usual self blasted 20 scoring 5 fours, and Charlie was caught for two the skipper came in got dropped by our good friend and former player Matt Hoadley who did cling onto the catch which dismissed Roberts to his great delight.
But Richard Pearson was in fine form scoring 33 including 7 fours as Hartest raced to 64 for 2 in 12 overs with a lot of batting to come on a lightening outfield which was surprising with all the wet weather over the last couple of days.
Interestingly 13 fours and 6 other scoring shots backed the super outfield. The persistent drizzle got harder and prolonged and the umpires called it to come in for a while, but it carried on until an early tea was taken along with a time to see if it improved but alas it was pretty much set in for the afternoon.
Strangely enough how the fixtures work out Hartest and Coldham Hall CC next game is against Long Melford at Home and please note to the players playing this match is a bring some savouries [i.e. a plate of sandwiches, sausage rolls, crisps etc.] Judith Atkinson or the Skipper will get the team sorted and hopefully collate for everyone to bring something up for the tea.
Niall Hannan 's family are providing desert so please keep an eye out if selected for next week's game against Long Melford.
