Awards Evening and the Winner is.......
The annual awards evening for Hartest and Coldham Hall Cricket Club took place at the Lawshall Swan and what a great night was had by all.
The Captain spoke after a very short almost inaudible speech from the Chairman to which was the many people he had to thank in helping him in running the club making it all that bit easier.
In no particular order it was for Peter and Kate Richards use of the pitch, Peter, Nick Rutter, Dave Armstrong, and a few others on the very important time consuming pitch preparation.
All the people making the fantastic teas, that's one league we win every year, the scorers, special mention to Shaun who did quite a bit this season and also in his help with Donna in arranging the evening with no doubt a few more behind the scenes.
If I the Webmaster have forgotten anyone my apologies, the players were thanked, the late call up some people were given and helped out, a massive big thank you to those guys throughout the season.
The fact we actually won games in Division two and noticeably more competitive than our last incursion to this league. We also managed to stay in the Division Two for next season which is testimony of how well we did, although a couple of heavy defeats came our way the team played in the right way, a smile on our faces, a few grimaces of old bones as well mixed in there but overall a decent season.
Richard Carter was unable to come and sent his apologies for his absence, but overall a great turn out on the evening which was matched by a superb dinner laid on from the Lawshall Swan, I believe the majority of people I spoke to were very impressed so please pass this message onto friends and family to go along for a meal and support our sponsors who on match days provide often free food.
The Captain got the main event, the Batsmen of the Year and that after one year of not winning went back to the supreme David Hodge, pictures on website of him plus other awards coming soon. He was majestic in all the games he played and we are lucky to have him plus his lovely family within the club.
The Captain then went onto the Bowling award and said in a earlier conversation to said player, he has in all the years never won the bowling trophy well, that changed tonight, as for probably the first time in many years, David Hodge claimed the bowler of the year much to his surprise and delight.
Champagne moment, well the first was a repeat of last year, an amazing running, over the head, one handed catch was like last year winning of the bottle but this year was with his back to the ball, Dave Armstrong, take a bow son!
However, another Champagne moment was chosen, where it has happened before but it's one that is still funny, Jordan Marlow, disappeared into the ditch, I believe he didn't even stop the ball but well done and he collected another bottle.
There was a lot of noise, laughs, fun, drink, food, chatting, simply a good time was I hope had by all and from the pictures taken its clear to see why we may not win trophies or leagues but dam we know how to have a good time, not take ourselves to seriously and have loads of fun on the way.
The AGM will come round again soon, dates or texts from the skipper will come out in due course, the winter has set in, time to re group and as they say in the movies with sport, we go again!!
Webmaster.
The Captain would also like to thank all those who on the evening sponsored him in his Morrisons Great South Run next weekend in Brighton on behalf of a Maternity hospital in Ghana, he has to run 10 miles, probably just like an afternoon of fielding at the Richards Oval, good Luck Son, a worthy cause and thanks for the sponsorship, next year I believe he maybe running for the Dave Armstrong Tyre Collection for his Van!!!
