Nowton CC 253 for 8
J Walker, 146 Not Out,
Z Kulasi 2-25
Hartest and Coldham Hall CC 164 All Out.
Z Kulasi 55, D Hodge 41, B Atkinson 18,
Hartest and Coldham Hall travelled the short distance to Nowton CC and won the toss but different to other years decided to ask Nowton to bat first.
Ziaf Kulasi opened the bowling with Dickie Pearson and both took early wickets, 42 for 2 after ten overs, in a beautiful setting and a fast outfield was an encouraging start.
However J Walker had arrived and had a super innings, helped early on when dropped on 30 odd runs to a very difficult chance which nobody would have swapped places with to try and take the catch.
Runs were flowing like the beer in the club house and numerous bowlers tried to stem the pints, I mean tide but to no avail.
Ben Atkinson took 3 catches behind the stumps plus a stumping, wickets were attained by Ziaf two, Hodge two, plus Ryder and Dave Armstrong spectacular catch off his own bowling, however not so sure it was as wonderful as he described because Nick could not recall him making a catch at first, but then I guess Dave has a bit of a fisherman in him.......
J Walker remained unbeaten, scoring 146, my understanding was new man Gavin Pymer making his debut may have ruptured his Achilles heel, and the legend Peter Richards found a hole in the outfield, not by choice, and injured himself, leaving 9, fit men, well 9 without injuries.
Before the reply another mention of another sad loss to the human race and cricket, we lost Tony Catley from Exning but I read that we lost Mr Webster formerly head teacher of Cockfield Primary School and Brettenham Cricket Club, both were super guys and much respect to them both and families.
Talking of School teachers, Zoe Ryder did the scoring of the Hartest and Coldham Hall innings, very neatly done, seemed keen, she has got the job, plus as regular readers might have noticed, my lack of commas, and being very grammatically incorrect, she mentioned this fact, these are for her and many others queuing up to write the reports,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, should be enough.
Hodge and Roberts, its a almost legendary, like Greenwich and Haynes, but not quite as good, nearly, but Roberts was out early for two, said the keeper, took a stunner, may have been drinking the same stuff as Dave Armstrong.
Ziaf, by far man of the match and Hodge, took the game to Nowton, one of the top four perhaps two needed to score big but after making Nowton twitch a bit, Hodge was caught behind at 60 for two, still within striking distance.
Captain Ben Atkinson, never one to hang about hit a quick fire 18 before being bowled by Rolfe who has been around for 35 years, knows his stuff even if a bit slower nowadays.
Ziaf went on to get his fifty with some stylish shots, a couple of fortunate ones but he was out to a very good catch deep on the boundary by the Nowton fielder looking into the sun, it was game over from that point.
The tail sort of wagged and limped, Peter Richards was really nearly spectacularly caught on the boundary, I saw that one myself, don't recall Dave buying me a drink.
Gavin Pymer, gallantly went into bat and number eleven, limped out, hung around while Nick Rutter got a season high score of 9 before being caught to end the game.
Hartest and Coldham Hall recent adventures at Nowton are all out for 64, so an improvement, all out for a hundred and sixty four.
Next week the team entertain East Bergholt Academy, we are still looking for someone to do teas please, thank you to Steve and Zoe booking to do a tea on the 30th July, the website has been updated.
