Hartest and Coldham Hall CC first home game of the season on a bright but chilly wind started well by Richard Carter winning the toss and decided to bat with stalwart Mark Roberts and young Master Oliver Mellville-Ross.

Sadly I have no partnership details but I heard from the opposition that young Oliver equipped himself well and hit a six no doubt following Robbo who also hit a six.

Both were bowled with Oliver getting two more than Robbo and his Dad Rupert who came in at number three both scoring 20.

Wickets began to fall but each batsman got a start and were trying to hit out with two stumping's in the innings and Peter Richards found some early form scoring 19 also including a six.

Hartest and Coldham Hall were eventually all out in the 35th over for 123, didn't look enough but early season and the Oval looking a bit green who knew what might happen after tea.

Teas were done by Charlie Long and Dickie Pearson and very nice they were indeed, which does bring me to mention we do need more dates filling including the next home game so please let the skipper know if you can help.

After tea the impossible began with Rupert Mellville-Ross in superb form, taking early wickets and the only catch this season so far, he was in swinging it like a demon and 4 wickets down with only 46 on the board was game on, however the hard endeavour of Rupert faded when his ten overs were up which got a round of applause from the Edwardstone team from the sidelines.

Hartest and Coldham tried with numerous bowlers to try and get Edwardstone to wobble but in the end they crossed the finishing line in a canter in the 25th over.

An early contender for a Champagne moment came when Dickie Pearson made a superb stop in the field but was unsure where the ball had gone, spinning around desperately looking for it not realising it was five feet away, the batsmen were running, Charlie Long wicket keeper chased 30 yards to get the ball himself as Dickie was still struggling in a frantic moment, but his gaze saw a spare ball near the boundary rope and chased after it, by the time he got to it turned and threw it into Charlie who had already thrown the correct ball back was a very amusing moment as two balls were on the pitch.

The game was in good spirit and good luck to Edwardstone for the rest of the season, however next week the mighty Hartest and Coldham take the short journey to Nowton away, the skipper will be in touch.
