Sad loss of Shane Warne

Sunday 13 August 2017

Hartest and Coldham Hall CC 75 All Out

B Atkinson 17, R Carter 14, D Armstrong 11

H Lord 3 for 4, D Johnson 3-15.

Nowton CC 76 For 2

S Cordell 60.

H Brewer 1-15, B Atkinson 9 - 1.

In the Captains final game in charge at home and the season as away next week, he won the toss and batted with only 9 men at the start time.

Regular openers Richard Carter and Dickie Pearson started solidly and got a start but the new ball was swinging a bit and Carter got a very good ball from H Rolfe which brought in the Captain who played himself in and hit the customary six but fatigue plus expectation of having to get a big score weighs heavily and was out in his final game in charge for 17, his average for the season is 71 with 50 sixes within that in under a dozen games.

Basically, wickets fell quite regularly without a he amount of runs being added, notable exceptions were Richard Carter and Dave Armstrong 11.

The tail did not wag in fact it dropped off, the total after 24 overs was 75 for 9 as one turned up within the innings the other managed to arrive during tea to make 11 but the innings was over.

The best bit of the day was tea for many reasons and before I praise such a worthy tea I must say all the teas we have had this season have been excellent and all required for the game to proceed, however those who know Nick Rutter and stars Dulcie Rutter, her friend Lucy plus help from Dave Armstrong like to put on an end of season big bash, it was a variety and a full amount of food fit for a great sporting event..........well you can't have everything but our thanks goes to those mentioned and those throughout the season, not going to lie but it was extremely difficult this season and that mantel will be passed on next season if we have another season.

Well with 75 to defend it was fun time, everyone had one over unless they took a wicket, S Cordell had an amazing bit of luck when the ball from Roberts thumped into the stumps and the bails stayed on, didn't flinch, he went onto hit a very quick 60, dropped by the Webmaster mid way through his innings not that the game was ever in doubt, young ex Nowton player Brewer bowled one wicket and the other came from Ben Atkinson with a stumping off his 3 ball over as the next ball went for a single then 4 buzzers to end the game although a few others got a bowl and fun with an early ending ensued.

Thank yous a plenty with pitch preparation and teas as mentioned, next week is the final game of the season away at Edwardstone, we have a few missing already but hopefully can raise 11 maybe for the last time, a meeting will be held in September / October to discuss whether the club can survive, what will help is dropping a division into Div. 3.

The out going Captain is still committed to playing but a few changes and new young blood are required to survive, but time will tell, thank you to the Swan Pub, not only were they exceptionally busy with a wind in the willows production they still found time to look after the cricket team, they are fantastic, well worth a visit, I hear their Sunday lunch is super but book up, otherwise you maybe disappointed, well you will because you will miss a superb lunch.

Right, not the best day but there have been worst, a massive thank you goes to Benjamin Mark Atkinson, stalwart of the Hartest and Coldham Hall Team for the last three and half years, he would be the first to say he does have super help from team members and patience with a devilry for fun, We salute you!
