Captain Stays and the Club Continues into 2018

Hartest and Coldham Hall  AGM Officers

The AGM was held and thanks goes to the Swan Public House for allowing us to hold the AGM.

About ten members were at the meeting, Nick Rutter had sent his apologies with a few others who were unable to attend.

All the officers that were held from 2017 have continued in their rolls for 2018, the most significant position was of Captain Ben Atkinson who was more than willing to step down but with no natural successor decided to continue but with a few attachments to the role.

Vice Captain Richard Carter who will along with other players help in getting a team up for the fixtures and may very well take control on match days to take some of the strain off the skipper.

The positions of the club are as follows;

Chairman - Peter Richards
Vice Chairman - Dave Armstrong
Treasurer - Nick Rutter
Secretary - David Hodge
Captain Ben Atkinson
Vice Captain -Richard Carter
Groundsmen - Peter Richards, Nick Rutter, Dave Armstrong, and                           - Team Members.
Debts -Nick Rutter
Child Welfare Officer - Ben Atkinson

The Chairman / Groundsman mentioned to have one of the mowers repaired and other minor things to be sorted along with roof of the pavilion and replace the roller battery which mysteriously disappeared.

The Captain said the amount of cash in the club funds which was reasonably healthy and that he was to attend the Child Welfare course which is renewed every three years.

The Webmaster came up with a club day on the 15th April as we do not have a friendly with Exning CC this year as they have merged with Burwell, good luck to them in the future.

The format being easy going to clear out the pavilion and help with the pitch plus some nets and catching practise or competition, which was struggling to inspire the boys but when the Webmaster mentioned having a BBQ via Mr Roberts the idea was rubber stamped.

Along with checking out and clearing the pavilion the teas was mentioned that on the 15th of April where possible to get the dates for teas sorted for the season, the Captain said and agreed a full tea was required not just one half, the half was brought in for reasons where some found it easier to pair up for savoury or cakes etc.

The one exception was Richard Carter who is putting on the BBQ for the single wicket competition which proved to be a big hit at the end of last season, however it was decided that with two free weeks in July that it could be held then and July 15th will be the single wicket competition.

Richard Pearson has already booked himself the 13th May versus Worlington at home to do a full tea, and another Webmaster attachment put forward was the player who was doing the tea would not pay a match fee, of course if doing two halves then £5.00 each would be collected on each tea. [Full tea nothing to pay]

Match fees were held at £10.00 a game with exceptions; Students £5.00 only, and if which happened on a few occasions a person who steps in to help out and make the numbers up will not be charged, then Nick Rutter will have discretion that if an early game is weather affected or something bizarre happens in exceptional circumstances declare a no match fee decision.

It goes without saying any potential new players are required to build up the squad a bit and help with team selection, it was very good seeing Jim Marlow back in town and hopefully play a few games.

Formula in the averages was not in place and pointed out by Richard Carter who was averaging 14 runs not the 7 on some of the sheets that were printed at the dinner, I checked the others and all were correct.

So the 15th of April is club day and BBQ where we need please dates for teas, plus your marigolds to help clean up the pavilion.

My apologies if I missed anything, and no doubt there will be a few things but the club continues into 2018, lets make it a fun one and keep it going for the kids of the future.
