Captain Robberts lost the toss and were asked to bat first by Nowton. On paper a strong batting side failed to deliver and from the start struggled losing wickets on a regular basis with Roberts in quickfire mode scoring 30 before being caught in the deep. With only Roberts getting into double figures and the pitch was playing better than some previous visits HCCC were all out in the 25th over with Nick Rutter and N.Hannan putting up a brave last wicket stand.
Before tea the game was over with the ball just not going to hand and near misses the end did not take long on a fast outfield and with only the fall of one wicket caught by Hodge bowled by Hannan the only bright spot. Atypical start of season performance on a ground that has never been a lucky one for the team.
A beer match of 20 overs a piece with everyone bowling 2 overs a piece was a chance for HCCC to get a bit of pride back into the day which they duly delivered by posting a score of 183 all out the main contributors being W. Bryant 50 and D.Hodge 50 not out. Nowton batted out the overs to get to 163 for 6. HCCC now moves onto there first home game against Tuddenham next week.
