HCCC Wins again over top of Table Mellis
HCCC 273 for 6
Hodge 125, Richards 49, Melville-Ross 31
Mellis 210 all out
Farrant 101, Spence 81.
Hodge 5 for 44.
Captain Roberts won the toss and decided to bat with the openers Hodge and Richards starting like a train and finding the gaps HCCC had a great start before Richards was caught on 49 with the score on 88 in only 16 overs gave the whole side a lift and it continued with Bryant scoring a steady 22 showing signs of returning form as was the marvelous Hodge who sailed past 50 before Bryant was caught and then joined by Captain Roberts who in his own style hit a quick 23 and Melville-Ross 31 and the cement of the innings Hodge who went on to get his century while runs were flowing towards the end of the innings Gwatkin 3, and B. Atkinson hitting a six of his first ball and eventually the gallant Hodge fell in the 40th over for a terrific 125 and the team total of 273 for 6.
With such a large score Mellis who are top of the table showed there batting prowess with a blistering start and sixes and fours were flying around with the main batsman Farrant ripping into all the bowlers scoring 100 out of 110 which put a tremendous strain on bowlers and fielders with Captain Roberts trying his best to work out a way to get the prolific hitting of Farrant out and finally Hodge 4th ball and a match winning catch by Hannan finally saw the back of Farrant for 101, Spence was the only other Mellis player who seemed to have gone to the same School as Farrant and was clubbing the ball to all parts of all bowlers with HCCC feeling the pressure the Mellis batsmen were falling at the other end mostly to Hodge who’s five wickets and the final wicket of Spence 81 saw HCCC over the wining line to a 63 run victory but it was far from an easy game and could have easily slipped away even with a large score on the board.
Man of the Match David Hodge glorious 125 and 5 wickets a return to last years form is well and truly back.
This makes three wins in a row and beating the top two in successive weeks is a great achievement by the team and the spirit within it.
The league fixtures now take a break for the Tour weekend and a friendly the following week.

I can now put the prayer mat away, Hodgey has found his touch! What a great knock and let's not forget Pete's brisk 49. What a headache - who to open with when Hodgey, Jonners and Pete are playing! The great start allowed us to really have a go in the middle order and for once a good batting line up "on paper" delivered the goods.
Bowling was a slightly different matter. Not an easy task to a man of Farrant's power. We were told last week that he hits straight and he didn't dissapoint. Rupert bowled a good spell as always but sadly for Pete, Farrant tucked in. Some important dropped catches didn't help but finally it was down to Niallos to take a superb catch in the deep to remove the danger man.Further wickets fell at regular intervals and Hodgey assured bankrupcy by adding a 5 for to his splendid 125 runs.
Two weeks of friendlies (which we certainly lose because the flag is coming on tour!) before returning to league action against Nowton!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
