Tour Success despite Defeat

Tour Game June 23rd 2007

HCCC Versus Fen Rustics played at Spalding Grammer School.

Fen Rustics 245 all out

Flower 50,Coates 58,Dring 71

Ralling 4 - 59

HCCC 224 all out

Ralling 50,Hodge 56,N Hannan 29,B Atkinson 28.

First of all a HUGE thanks to John and Fiona Ralling on organizing the tour and putting up many members with rooms or tent pitching's. Guys it was fantastic and without doubt everyone enjoyed it immensely.

Captain Roberts lost the toss and Fen Rustics decided to bat first in sunny warm conditions which were later to deteriorate into drizzle and rain late in the HCCC innings.

With the game being a friendly it gave Roberts and opportunity to blood some younger players with the new ball and a change of batting line up.

Fen Rustics with help of the more laid back atmosphere of a non competitive match got off to a strong start with 39 on the board for the first wicket taken by the impressive Walton in his 8 overs 1 for 29.

However the next wicket didn't fall until 103 and with a lapse of the odd catch the batting team scored quickly and with the mozza incident when he left the field of play just as the ball was hit to his part of the field only to see him disappear into the pavilion where he was fined by Richards £5.00 for desertion to duty!

Fen Rustics were all out for 245 and with young openers Hannan and B Atkinson got to 41 before the later was caught, Hannan diligently batted to a good 29 while some older batsmen fell by the way side until Ralling 50 and a gallant 56 from the last man out Hodge had put a very worried look on the faces of the Fen Rustics to win the game by a mere 21 runs in poor light and rain a very moral victory for the touring side.

A BBQ followed which was excellent followed by some drinking and more eating with a visit by some to the local Pub and an early morning was had by most. Enough said!

Next day with the weather report spot on the game was called off due to rain and with a visit to the ground which was very impressive it is hoped a fixture could be arranged again. The team went to visit another local public hostelry with Sunday lunch before the trip home.

The Tour was great fun and again thanks to John, Fiona, and Mum too made this possible, check out the pictures in the Photograph section of the site.

Next week there is a family Friendly with Captain Roberts also having a BBQ with an early start of 1.15 so please arrive on time at the HCCC ground.
