Sad loss of Shane Warne

Sunday, 22 July 2007

HCCC Large run chase falls just short

Bury 253 for 5

Aldous 136, Stevenson62,

Bryant 3 for 38

HCCC 213 all out

Bryant 61, Roberts 34, Hodge 33, Richards27,

Dobson 3 for 28.

HCCC lost by 40 runs.

Captain Roberts won the toss and had a difficult decision on a green but wet track to bat or bowl deciding the latter and HCCC did not cover themselves in glory as the ground fielding was there but alas the catches this week just did not stick and or fell in between fielders which led to the opening Bury batsman scoring a 136 before Nicky Rutter caught him in the 33rd over and the score on 204 for 2 as the other opener was out when Gus Walton bowling deflected the ball onto the stumps to claim the unfortunate Therle for 10 in 7th over.

Only William Bryant who had two spells of bowling gaining any success with 3 wickets for 38 but by the time the Bury innings had closed they had amassed 253 for 5 a huge target.

HCCC got back to there normal never say die attitude with Richards and Hodge opening partnership of 56 before Richards was caught in the deep for 27 and well up on the run rate.

William Bryant was HCCC best player on the day and finally found some of last seasons form and was scoring freely with Captain Roberts who was in after Hodge caught behind for 33.

Although HCCC was up on the run rate wickets began to fall and the middle order failed to get on to help Bryant who’s gallant stand finally ended with HCCC hopes too for a superb big hitting 61.

Hannan and Rutter managed to get the team over 200 and therefore getting extra batting points before the HCCC last man was out and ending on 213 and losing by 40 runs with still overs to spare.

Without doubt this was a game HCCC should have won easily and even though with poor fielding performance nearly pulled off a victory with the visitors realizing that although they may have won they had a lot of luck go there way.

HCCC moves onto to Great Cornard away and where they will endeavour to be that bit sharper in the field to get back into winning ways again.

I can honestly say that this is the first time in nearly 20 years of batting in this league that I have not been clapped into bat. When I challenged their captain on such rudeness he responded by saying that he encouraged non clapping and felt that clapping in a batsman was a sign of disrespect!!! Thank goodness that we at H&CCC are true gents!(even if we can't catch!)
I really have nothing to add to Markie's match report (please spell realise with an s not a Z - americanisms!)
Will FINALLY produced the goods that we all know he is more than capable of and was unlucky to be out looking for a single on the last ball of the over.
Due to a lack of availibility I have had to call off Saturday's friendly against the Bushmen.
I think that we should all get into the garden this week and practise catching with our children/wives/partners/friends! Surely if we had held just half we would have had a fairly easy victory.
See you all Sunday where Will is on a hat trick! (if he gets a bowl)
