Walsham Away 1st League Game

With the Edwardstone Friendly falling foul to the weather attention now switches to the first league game of the season in Division Two of the Hunts League on the 27th April with a 1.30 start.

The skipper will no doubt be sorting a team out to start the new competitive season.

On Tuesday 22nd April there will be some people heading up to the Richards Oval to help on pitch preparation and clean out the pavilion if you can get there to help I am sure many hands make light work would be very apt.

I have put on a map of the next fixture and here I have pasted a bit from the Walsham Website of there ground direction for players and supporters who want to come out for a pleasant Sunday afternoon's entertainment.

"The Sports Club is situated in Summer Road a quarter of a mile from the “Church / Six Bells” cross roads on the left hand side of the road. The meadow has been the home of the village football and cricket teams going back to the late 1800’s and the old pavilion still survives on the far side of the ground. Practice has started for the coming season by using the indoor nets at Culford School on Sunday mornings from 10.00 am to 12.00 am. "

The above paragraph is from Walsham and you can see they have had similar preparation to ourselves with Culford Nets for two hours so we will have to be ready to get back to the form of last season and try to get of to a wining start.

Coldham were my first Cricket club and I have fond memories playing in the summer of 1973. Myself and Paul Wilson were both 14yrs and seemed to spend most of that summer at the ground.
I have an old photo which shows the following players in the team -
Raymond McKenna, Richard Twinn, Nick Harcourt-Powell, Phillip Everett, Brian Fitzgerald, Adrian Gregory, Don Wright, Bernie Burton, Graham Clampin (Capt) and myself and Paul.
All of our games were friendlies but we played most weekends and some evening matches too.
Paul emigrated to Australia in the early eighties but I would be interested to learn whether any of the others are still around.
I later went on to play for Hawstead, Nowton and Bury Railway before spending several years playing for Lowestoft and Kirkley in the Norfolk Alliance before bad knees, back etc forced me to call it a day a couple of years ago. I miss playing but enjoy watching my son Sam play instead.
Cricket is a fantastic social event which will leave you with many friends and memories for life.
Congratulations on your promotion and best wishes for the new season.
