Over two days a touring team from London Walthamstow played a 40 over game on the Saturday and then a 20twenty game on Sunday in between showers.
Hopefully a full report will appear from Vice Captain Bryant in due course but the Webmaster can give you some facts and figures of the games.
H&CHCC batted first on the Saturday with seven players and some borrowed players from the touring team.
This was already pre arranged as the touring team had more players coming down wanting a game.
H&CHCC got a creditable score of 222 all out with Richards getting a good 40 and a London player scoring 53 with other good contributions through the scorecard.
In reply two big scores from Bertram 69 and Matt Green 77 put the touring side in commanding position and with Nick Captain Roberts brother striding out to hit the winning runs was caught behind but only delayed the inevitable and the touring team had won the game.
Coopwell was the location for the BBQ where a lot of work had gone into the food and big thank you to Mrs Roberts and the help she received from fellow friends and family to which a good night was had by all perhaps some maybe to much?
Any how with a poor forecast appearing to be right the 20twenty match started and the home side got off to a rattling start and with everyone bowling two overs maximum some big hitting was the order of the day with Captain Roberts scoring 48 before retiring in one of the two rain breaks as the home team had 13 players to give everyone a game and the weather was not going to allow a second game as planned.
The home team in there 20 overs got a very good unassailable 163 with a Gus six that was the only outfield catch in the entire innings only for the fielder to fall over the boundary with his momentum or shock of Gus hitting a six!
In reply and many wides and a minor controversy with a catch behind that actually was not given by the umpire [ HIS DECISION IS FINAL] London got off to a creditable start slowed down by N Rutter spin bowling and taking the first wicket of the innings but with some big hitting and Ben getting a 78 not out and with one ball to go in the heavy drizzle won the game that was so enjoyable as cricket won the weekend with some new friendships formed.
The weather and time meant there was no second game and a mention to K Richards tea on the Saturday and the ladies that helped in serving up to a lot of extra numbers with touring side and families plus on the Sunday making a lot of teas in between the rain breaks too.
Overall a good weekend and a lot of effort behind the scenes in making it possible to which I believe London Walthamstow will always have memories of there weekend out in the country and I bet all that fresh air they slept well too.
