Hadleigh Pile on Runs and Trouble for H&CHCC

Hadleigh 293 for 2

K Ellis 137 Not Out, D Green 85.

D Armstrong 10 - 2 -34 -0

H&CHCC 106 All Out

B Atkinson 19, Bryant 19 Hannan 14.

Hadleigh arrived late due to an alleged accident and not knowing where the Richards Oval was although clearly in the Handbook and Website.

Hadleigh won the toss and decided to bat which proved to be a very good toss to win on a summers day with a bit of a breeze Dave Armstrong opened the bowling with son Jack Armstrong and some very good bowling with cautious batting led to 20 overs for 90 but no wickets.

The 100 partnership was achieved when Wiles found the ever enthusiastic Michael Durell caught for 39 and the score of 105 on the board.

This brought in K Ellis and with Green set about the bowling with great help with a short boundary and our old adversary dropping catches which there was five on a pitch that was playing so true a run feast was being digested by the Hadleigh pair.

Green past 50 as did Ellis then in no time at all Ellis went past his hundred still plundering runs off all the bowlers until a suicide run with saw Green depart run out for 85 with some smart work in the field by J Armstrong.

The long afternoon finally came to a close with numerous bowlers trying their luck but to no avail leaving Hadleigh on an unbeatable total of 293 for the loss of only two wickets.

After tea and instructions from the skipper Bryant to try and get 8 an over the opening batsmen M Atkinson and B Atkinson tried to get onto of the bowling from ball one and had some success with runs coming thick and fast with only three overs gone 30 on the board but to maintain that level was not to be and young B Atkinson was bowled for 19 runs including 4 fours in his innings.

Next to go bowled was M Atkinson for 13 and the total on 45 which brought in Captain Bryant who scored quick fire 19 before being caught out.

Wickets and run rate declined fast and with such a mammoth total to get it was a thank less task only Niall Hannan got into double figures scoring 14 runs however the team did achieve a batting point when they went through to a hundred runs.

The final wicket of D Armstrong fell in the 24th over and the innings ended on 106 with Nick Rutter 2 not out.

Hadleigh had won by 187 runs but they were a lot different team than last time we played and there was a few first team players in the team today and with H&CHCC fielding another weakened team losing the toss and dropping 5 catches I guess it was one of those days.

This defeat was the biggest of the season and perhaps personifies the season that relegation is looming large.

H&CHCC have a break from the action next week and then travel for there final away game at Haverhill another tough fixture.

The week after the last league game brings Brettenham to the Oval assuming they can get a team already conceding two games this season bottom of the table and rumours that they will be folding imminently which is very sad if this is the case.

The Webmaster will be away on Holiday when these last two games are played so there will be no early match report but if the results are text through to him then he may just enter the result on the Website.

The Swan have been looking after us very well and it was suggested that the evening function might be held there this year for a change with a view to keeping costs down but other suggestions are welcome through to Captain Bryant.

January has been mentioned but September / October as well, so if you want some input please contact Captain Bryant with any suggestions.

As the season draws to a close we ask where was the BBQ summer they promised and where was the H&CHCC luck perhaps the same place as the summer weather who knows but after four successful seasons this one is a minor blip and should wet the appetite to come back all guns blazing for next season.
