7 Runs Short in Run Chase
Rougham CC 194 for 7
J Firth 51,
D Hodge 3-39
Hartest and Coldham Hall CC 188 all out.
D Hodge 72, N Hannan 27, W Bryant 20, B Atkinson 20.
So close but so far however a spirited Hartest and Coldham took Rougham all the way to the last over and so nearly won the match but in keeping with the season so far it was a bridge to far.
Captain Ben Atkinson won the toss and inserted Rougham with Jack Armstrong bowling well supported by Steve Ryder, however runs were coming steadily for Rougham and Hodge took three wickets but the top order all got and scored a few runs reaching the target of 194 for 7 at tea.
Hartest and Coldham were pinned down early on their reply losing Ryder early and William Bryant carrying an injury got 20 before Hodge and Hannan steadied the ship but were getting some runs which increased after the drink break with Hannan taking more risks and riding his luck being dropped a couple of times before he was taken for 27.
Captain Ben Atkinson and Hodge moved the score on noticeably with a gusto and the nerve endings of Rougham were showing numerous bowlers were used but the run rate was coming down fast but with thoughts of a win in the air Atkinson holed out deep on the longest boundary for 20.
In form Dave Armstrong went early LBW, but Jack Armstrong carried his good form on with Hodge smashing some big lusty blows including two sixes and again dare we dream of a victory but the luck deserted us as Hodge chasing a wide one got an edge to the keeper for a magnificent 72 but the look on his face coming out would have swapped it for a duck to win the game as the tail of the team were exposed with over thirty to get with 5 overs to go.
Jack Armstrong took on the mantel and did very well but Borley was out early, Jim Marlow hit a lovely boundary and was run out trying to get a second runs with overs running out.
Rougham were in panic mode without doubt they brought back an injured bowler I Firth who had bowled earlier conceding only 3 runs in five overs to keep one end tight which he did plus take wickets with three overs Hartest and Coldham needed 21 he took a wicket and concede one run.
Jack Armstrong was with Nick Rutter at the beginning of the last over needing more than the bowler Firth had conceded in 7 overs, an edge from Nick Rutter for one but with a poor throw in they went for a second run, well poor Nick dived in one end, got up to run the overthrow his pads were slipping down his legs as it looked like he was running with his trouser coming down as fast as he could dived in to safety but didn't make it, it was all over with two balls left and 7 runs to win.
Fantastic effort by the team and huge spirit with just a small amount of luck a famous victory but we march on to the home game against BSSSC for more fun and memories.
