Its a Rout and a Partridge in a Pair Tree defeat!
BSSSC 287 For 3
Partridge 133 Not Out, H Rout 51, J Taylor 48.
Hartest and Coldham Hall CC 161 All Out.
B Atkinson 44, S Ryder 43 Not Out, M Atkinson & R Carter 15.
M Moye 4-27, H Rout 3-53.
Tough times for Captain Ben Atkinson who struggling with an injury tried to keep the spirits of the team up but today probably was one of the toughest with so many of the team carrying injuries.
Call offs through work and injuries before the game started but N Hannan, M Roberts, B Atkinson, S Faires, all carrying injuries some seeking attention from resident nurse Atkinson [Judith] before the game and during the game injury to a hand for Peter Richards plus just having his stitches removed from previous game he played seemed to take it's toll in today's game.
On a green wicket the ball did very little and Captain of the BSSSC side Richard Partridge who has been the scourge earlier in the season will be sad to see us drop down which was confirmed by letter that we will return probably to the division we whence came from for next season got himself in with opening bowlers straining every sinew to get past the top order with only W Rout being bowled by Ryder with a clever slower ball.
The next partnership of over a hundred runs [109] was after some generous wide's were given Captain Ben Atkinson quicker ball bowled J Taylor for 48, this brought H Rout into bat who with Partridge scoring freely went onto complete his hundred plus H Rout getting to his fifty when a catch was spilled over the boundary however shortly after Ryder caught him at point off the bowling of Jack Armstrong for 51 but crucially 117 partnership.
You make your on luck they say but this season the one blight was catching, a few were purely fitness or lack of mobility and ball dropping into the right areas of just simply more catching practise required the inning finished for BSSSC on 287 for three and Partridge unbeaten on 133.
After tea a demoralised Hartest and Coldham went out with a cavalier attitude with gay abandon with Steve "ghost" Ryder and Niall Hannan trying from the off to keep up with the run rate from so fast H Rout & W Rout bowling.
Hannan was soon dismissed with his injury and movement with Peter Richards going in at three but first ball he aggravated his hand injury from earlier and was struggling before he edged one to Partridge [is he a one man team] now wicket keeper.
Mark Roberts came in next in swashbuckling style was allowed to tee off he tried but got a corker and was out for 8, 29 for 3 looking bleak but Captain Ben Atkinson came in and was superb hitting Rout out of the park a few times, losing the ball, on a number of occasions he lifted the spirit's of the flagging Hartest and Coldham side scoring 44 with good support from Ryder taking it to 92 for 4 when after the ball Partridge finally choose skied a high ball and caught in his innings he smashed five sixes.
Richard Carter joined Ryder and also joined the party scoring a few runs with three fours in his 15 before a very poor ball or half tracker had him swinging a bit early and was bowled, he nearly could have hit it on his second time round with that swing.
In form Jack Armstrong joined Ryder, Oh should not say that kiss of death he was out quickly, S Faires had a large appeal from Partridge for LBW with the bowler telling him he had hit it but it was not long before he missed another and was given out LBW.
M Atkinson joined Ryder and between them got the second highest partnership of the innings but the word from the dressing room was get a move on so more risks were taken and M Atkinson was bowled, however Steve Ryder was still hanging in from the opening spot, could he carry his bat?
Josh Borley reversed swept a shot amongst his 8 runs getting some applause from BSSSC with quite a few players knowing each other the game was a friendly affair but the demise of Borley followed by the end of the innings when Jay Davenport was bowled for one.
Steve " Ghost" Ryder had carried his bat through out the innings not a mean feat considering he had played football in the morning rushed over to bowl ten overs, field well take a catch then open the batting and be in their at the end undefeated a big well done to him and some good cheer after a long day as the final total was 161.
Chairman Ralling has asked for ideas with a very generous donation from the family of Ted Crouch who passed away last year, some ideas are of a Score Box called the Ted Crouch Score Box, a Champagne moment trophy ? so please if you have some ideas please let me know or direct to Chairman Ralling as soon as possible.
With the season coming to a close soon the team take on a tough challenge of Stowmarket away so come on over to support the team in this very hard season and give them a cheer it can be tough out there in the middle and a bit of support goes a long way sometimes.
