Acton Man Cooper Wins It
Acton CC 250 for 6
A Cooper 135 Not Out
R Nunn 3-0-9-2 [Injured]
Hartest and Coldham Hall CC 71 All Out
S Ryder 39, J Borley 11, M Atkinson 9.
Hartest and Coldham struggled to get 11 on the pitch as late as Saturday night we only had 9 but thanks goes to Ian " Titch Copping and Brendan Victory [USA] who came in and ironically we ended with 12 turning up but Peter Richards who had manfully done the pitch was not 100% dropped out.
However with only ten on the pitch at the first ball Hartest and Coldham took a wicket with a sharp catch at slip by the Skipper who had lost the toss and asked to field held on and the best start was made off the bowling of Richard Nunn.
Even better was to come as again Richard Nunn bowled the other opener out with the score on 12 but the good fortune was to end as Richard pulled a groin muscle which virtually meant he could hardly move so ended up at slip for the rest of the game.
Cooper and Wright dug in and then dominated the bowling which was short for many reason hence the difficulty in getting a team, Brendan are new American friend had never played was not even sure of the laws of the game.
Mark Roberts bowled his ten overs a much needed control and after the Webmaster had dropped one of about six catches that went down he did get his man shortly after with a super catch behind the stumps from Josh Borley, diving one handed to hang onto the ball to remove the very dangerous Wright for 16.
Acton man Cooper was scoring freely supported by Dalton and French with stands of 63, then 41 plus a big hard hitting S Fisher with Cooper 79 took the game away from the Hartest and Coldham team.
Shaun Faires bowled 7 overs and did very well getting 2 for 39plus Niall safe hands Hannan bowled for the first time in a good while also did well, the skipper took some flack but bowling at the death without to many other options plus a few of the six drops on the day off his bowling was a ces't la vie moment.
Acton lost six wickets and hence gave Hartest and Coldham 3 points as the likelihood of chasing down 251 was a pipe dream but credit to openers Steve Ryder and Josh Borley who kept out J French and Sturgeon making 29 runs between them before Josh Borley holed out for 11.
Mark Roberts and Captain Ben Atkinson came in with not the best attitude and swung the bat from ball one both went back quite quickly for two and one run.
Steve Ryder continued to bat well and played some sweet shots as wickets tumbled through lack of match practise or never played before, only slight resistance from M Atkinson put on the second biggest partnership of 19 until Atkinson was comprehensively bowled for 9.
Finally Steve Ryder was bowled for a very good 39 runs with Jack Sasi caught soon after the end came to pass as Richard Nunn did not bat through his injury where there was no point in making it any worse.
Another home game against Woolpit Academy next week and hopefully a few regulars will be available, it was good luck for Acton to catch Hartest and Coldham Hall so short on players but we got eleven on the pitch and the game resembled many of the games we had last season, luckily this season that has been far less frequent event.
