Hartest & Coldham Hall CC 197 All Out
B Atkinson 58, M Roberts 41, J Armstrong 28 Not Out.
Risby CC 134 All Out
W Martin 31, D Edwards 24,
R Carter 4 - 44, Hodge 2-23.
Finally on a proper summers day in June the cricket weather gods blessed a lovely day for cricket and after losing the toss the skipper was pleasantly surprised to be asked to bat first.
David Hodge opened with Charlie Long who after a successful start with the club had his first blip getting caught at cover for a minimal score.
Mark Roberts came to the crease and started to play forward defensive................. course he didn't, he smacked the ball to all quarters of the ground and took most of the strike scoring an impressive 41.
Not being at the game until late on and no record in the book I can't say if he departed before Hodge or not but either way one of them was joined by the skipper who maintained his current scoring form with another thunderous innings hitting four sixes on a very big boundaries at the Richards Oval these days.
The inform Peter Richards continued his improving form scoring no doubt a super quick 20 runs and the top order after not performing last week laid down a platform for the rest to play with confidence and use up the overs allowed.
Richard Nunn who was left high and dry last week again after a long period out the game scored a few as did Richard Carter but one of the most consistent players with the bat this season was again Jack Armstrong known for his demon bowling but his batting average is more than healthy scoring another impressive 28 not out, top stuff.
The tail did collapse a tiny bit but Jack was supported by his Dad Dave with another dozen runs but not quite getting to the 200 runs which means another batting point however today it wasn't needed as the Captain along with the top order had put down the marker for a decent score, again the fact only two balls remained of the 40 overs says we bat the full amount we win more often than we don't.
After tea the weather was still warm and sunny the opening bowlers of Jack Armstrong and David Hodge bowled tightly with the Captain of Risby holing out to a good catch by Richard Nunn for 2 runs just the start the home team needed.
Risby were staying in but not producing many runs and Jack Armstrong bowled Samuels for 11 the wickets started to fall with only opener D Edwards causing any resistance as Hodge plus a very sharp run out thrown in by the Captain taken by Josh Borley well for a super run out were putting the writing on the wall for Risby.
Richard Carter came onto bowl with Charlie Long at the other end, Risby sensed they needed to take more risks and targeted these two but with Steve Frost 18, and Edwards finally going to a very good running catch by Dave Armstrong for 24 it only left W Martin with some big slogs to get the Risby score up and over 125.
Richard Carter had taken a bit of a beating but remained straight and on target accumulating a very good 4 wicket haul leaving Nick Rutter to spin the last Risby man out with a stumping behind the wicket from Josh Borley to complete a good home win.
Next week another home game against Acton at the Richards Oval and Peter will need some help next Sunday as both Nick and Dave are unavailable so help up at the pitch is crucial.
