Abandoned at Bardwell
Hartest and Coldham Hall CC v Bardwell CC
MATCH ABANDONED - RAIN
Match report on the game as far as it got below, however this will not be entered in game stats either played or averages.
Hartest and Coldham Hall CC 130 All Out. [32 overs]
R Carter 37, R M Ross 27, D Armstrong 14, O M Ross 9.
Bardwell CC 74 for 1 [10 Overs] Tea and then the Rain Came.
A brief summary of today's game which saw the first improvement of eleven players, another father and son combo, plus batted much better and in reality the overs batted kept the team from a certain defeat, with the other wonder of the skipper winning the toss.
With the skipper returning from his Barcelona adventure he won the toss, I believe only the third time this season and knowingly of the weather situation decided to bat, which ultimately proved a very good idea.
The man of the match had there been one would have been Vice Captain Richard Carter who diligently batted with aplomb and took a lot of time out of the game but more importantly gave a solid base to set a target.
He opened with Josh Borley and he got his head down and got in for those first few vital overs, but Carter was in nice touch letting the ball do the work with his nice touches, plus he also gave up a nasty habit this week which no doubt has improved his game, vaporising one could say.
Josh went trying to score which brought in the Captain whose form in recent weeks has been a bit sketchy and this continued with a third ball duck.
Enter the fray Rupert Melville-Ross again a player with class and that's just walking to the wicket, with his son looking on from the pavilion he played himself in and started a decent plus longest partnership with Richard Carter.
The pair moved the score on significantly, past the previous weeks score with only two wickets down before Rupert was bowled for 27, however he did hit two memorable cover drives to the boundary the like most of us could wish to do, class.
Drinks break came and the score on 90, but what was in those drinks I am not sure of as wickets tumbled, including Richard Carter given out LBW for his 37 runs.
Niall Hannon and Sam Holder both went quickly with the score not moving much, Dave Armstrong batted well for a quick 14 but was caught to a diving catch to end his innings.
Peter Richards was joined but a new 13 year old debutant Oliver Melville-Ross who with out doubt will do very nicely at Cricket and hopefully at Hartest and Coldham because belying his age hit some nice runs and very quick between the wickets, Richards, M Atkinson also came and went quickly not using to much lead from the scorers pencils.
Oliver was last man out for a good 9, as Nick Rutter was giving him the strike, a proud dad on the side lines I am sure, I bet mum would not be happy as Oliver slide in once or twice looked a bit grubby at the end but a happy debut nevertheless.
Now in real terms 130 was way below par for the ground and with the darkness closing in and drizzle already falling the 32 overs batted did not take us to tea and Bardwell wanted ten overs before tea.
There intent was get runs very quickly and they played exceptionally well getting to 74 with the loss of only one wicket, tea was taken and the already persistent rain got worse over and through tea so much so that the Captain of Bardwell called it a day and the game was abandoned.
Now the Skipper will being texting out possibly some info about a fun day next Sunday - No Cricket but a game of Rounder's for some fun, men women children can roll up and have a game with a BBQ on the go plus probably some drink, soft as well as hard.
The format may well be bring some food up for the Barbie and just a social get together over the bank holiday weekend, I am sure the kids can be involved along with parents and whoever.
Donna and Shaun Faires are the instigators of this event but a long weekend and a bit of fun would go down nicely, the website is unlikely to give much information over next couple of weeks so keep an eye out on the text or text the skipper for information.
The next game of Cricket is the following week at Home, the last game of the season at the Richards Oval, then away at Cavendish to finish the season off.
The website shall return on or after that Cavendish game plus information on the Dinner plus awards in October this year, not long to wait.
