The League Season Ends One Win and One Defeat
Flown in earlier today I caught up with the team on their last game of the season away at Cavendish, however below will relate to the previous weeks last home game against Haverhill.
Both games will have just a brief description of what happened plus events for a Six a Side at Exning CC next Sunday the 20th of September.
Also a quick reminder of the awards dinner at the Lawshall Swan on the 17th of October 2015.
September 6th Home to Haverhill CC.
Hartest and Coldham Hall CC 192 for 6
Hodge 82, R Melville-Ross 39, M Roberts 24, B Atkinson 21.
Haverhill CC 138 All Out
Melville-Ross 3-20, Hodge 3-46, D Armstrong 2-35.
Haverhill won the toss and decided to let Hartest and Coldham have a bat first, whether recent results for Hartest had played some part for being inserted I can only speculate, however Hodge and Roberts old partnership got the home team off to a great start, 49 before the loss of Roberts.
Another partnership between the Captain Ben Atkinson and Hodge took the score up to 93 at 20 overs a fantastic platform to build on and they duly obliged with in form Rupert Melville-Ross again scoring a well earned 39, plus Hodge going very well before chasing runs went for a super 82.
Peter Richards came in a scored a few which brought up the tea time total of 192 a very defendable score which opening bowlers Carter and Armstrong did not disappoint both picking up early wickets after a slow start from Haverhill.
Hodge and Melville-Ross as with the bat did the damage with the ball, taking out the middle order between them and the tail wagged a bit to get the score up to 138 but a very creditable win against a strong Haverhill team.
I can only assume the tea from Nick Rutter and help he has was superb, it goes without question again we won the league for teas, thank you for all the tea ladies and boys who help make a major contribution to the Hartest experience one could say.
Also on the help front, the home games with Peter, Nick, and Dave putting in lots of effort down the Swan, nope, I mean the pitch, seriously without these guys great effort and time on the pitch there would be no cricket team in the village, also apologies if I have missed anyone, it take a lot of people to run a cricket team so thank you all.
Today - 13th September Cavendish Away.
Cavendish CC 322 For 5
Chapman 211,
Hodge 2- 21, Rutter 2 -68, Bryant 1 -37
Hartest and Coldham Hall CC 145 All Out
Hodge 67, J Borley 26, M Roberts 16.
I only caught the last part of the game but when I arrived I thought hey Hodge and Roberts were in bat, the opening pair still in, but alas my optimistic feeling soon went after being told we were 0 - 2 in the first over, the story goes like.......
Like and end of season piece of fun, not for the first few overs a tidy spell between Carter and Hodge contained them, but not for long, Roberts and Atkinson arrived and the ball left, in many areas of the ground none more so than from Chapman who must have thought it was all you could eat at the diner...... he ate a lot, a rare double century, numerous bowlers were tried some with a bit of success, and in fact the welcome return of Billy Bryant who scored a memorable ton on his last visit with a staggering amount of Sixes I recall, however, today, simply slaughtered.
With fun the order of the day, probably started after the first 40 overs were bowled the old reverse the batting order came into play, plus an interesting opening pair of Nick Rutter in a funeral bowler hat, as he faced up the hat fell over his eyes and he departed first ball of the innings, then came as previously mentioned the clubber Bryant, and most called it, bowled for nought, 0 for 2.
Cavendish who had fully joined in with the last day at School feeling of fun put on quite a few bowlers who may not had necessarily bowled much with helped David Hodge who showed up his class by taking another 50 runs along with help from the reversed bottom order of Roberts 16, and Ben Atkinson 12, but Hodge who was caught by slip after edging one left the field with 67 to his name, also saving some face with the scoring up to over a 100 when Josh Borley hit a super quick 26 before being run out in spectacular fashion backing up, quality piece of fielding indeed.
Jordan Marlow who has played a few games, told bowled very well today plus got a few runs and spent some time in the middle, lets hope to see more next season, Richard Carter who was asked to hit a six off his first ball tried but his demise ended when playing his final game [Beard's] for Cavendish bowled him for three ending the game plus a fitting note for the home team who were elated for him to go out with a rare I suspect wicket in recent years?
145 all out and that has marked the end of the League season, just a six a side next week at Exning, always an enjoyable place to visit, plus a bit of fun and of course the main event on the 17th October at the Swan Public House the Dinner with awards evening, stats for the Batsman of the Year, Bowler of the Year plus the Champagne moment with two late contenders, messes Armstrong and Marlow, who will win, well book your place, enjoy a fantastic meal with great service, bound to be a great evening.
Bit of a long winded report of two games and many thanks, I will keep you updated on bits that come up but thank you for reading this dribble with the poor English that comes from long days in the field, jet lag, plus I ain't no reporter [ should be isn't].
