Is it Enough - Last Game Defeat

Hartest and Coldham CC 80 All Out

N Rutter 19, D Armstrong 13,

Abbott 5-11,

Stowupland CC   86  For 4

Roberts 2-28.

Last game of the season and Hartest and Coldham required 6 points to secure there position in Division Two. Stowupland CC required a win and would cement their position for promotion.

I wasn't at the game as it ended before I could get to it just landing back from holiday but I went to the watering hole to catch up on what happened, most of it was unprintable but the general feeling was an end of season game where perhaps the eye was literally taken off the ball being bowled out for 80 after winning the toss.

Carter and Roberts got to 17 before Abbott took the first of his 5 wickets and his second came very quickly taking the skipper Ben Atkinson without troubling the scoreboard but the score card had a few similar binary numbers.

Nick Rutter has had a golden season with the bat and at 39 for 6 he along with Dave Armstrong got the score up to 80, Nick surpassed his best score earlier in the season being second top score, now today was top score, but and there is always a but, 80 against a top of the table side looked, inadequate.

Stowupland went straight out before tea and knocked them off but a few maybe and if only as Hartest and Coldham Hall took four wickets but dropped six catches and a missed stumping along the way, sadly two wickets were required to assure second division cricket next season.

We will have to wait and see if all the other results go against the mighty Hartest and Coldham Hall, you can check via the website as I have a link to the league table, waiting on the last games to confirm but I am hopeful the boys have done enough.

One thing that can be confirmed is the end of season dinner is to be held at the Swan Lawshall who have been great supporters of the club and after last years superb meal will be held on Saturday 29th October 2016 with a 7.30 meet / start.

Please confirm with the skipper if you can make it, he will no doubt be in contact with the Swan for menu and prices, but the likelihood it will be similar to last years event where a great evening was had by all of those that attended.

Sorry a bit quick but a bit Jet lagged,

Webmaster
