Match Report worth a Read

Long Melford 170 for 8

Hartest and Coldham CC 174 for 6

Roberts 70. Hodge 19, N Hannan 18 Not Out, S Ryder 16.

I've only got the report below kindly written by the modest Mark Roberts in his unbiased opinion, please read it is a fantastic report, one of the best......

On a windy and overcast Sunday afternoon skipper Ben won the toss for Hartest and made the brave decision to bowl. Apart from the obvious off spin option that Roberts provides week in week out, there was surprisingly little in the way of other penetrating bowlers on show.
Overnight rain had made the outfield a little more spongy than usual and Carter and Hodge made a decent fist of keeping the run rate as low as possible before the "King of Hartest Spin" (apart from Nick, who is also amazingly brilliant) was brought on for his usual snaring session. The captain was brave, obviously playing with the opposition a little, he brought himself on to bowl. He got a couple of very fortunate dismissals owing to the springy nature of the surface.
With the master's trainee coming on at the Lawshall end the game was soon slowed
to a more reasonable rate, especially in the eyes of the vast Hartest and Coldham support that kindly turned up praying fora victory that would edge the team up and away from relegation.
The true left arm master spinner was finally called upon after the drinks break. The ball was turning at angles never seen before during a Sunday League match. Words were said to the captain from a couple of the senior players along the lines of " take him off skip, he's too good, it's not fair on the oppo." In hindisight they were probably right, but it was a bitter pill to swallow at the time, especially for all those loyal supporters who had turned up to see the mighty all rounder.
Tea followed with Long Melford make a useful and challenging total of 170.
Doubts were in the minds of the home side at tea, which was a fantastic affair only let down by the lack of cheese sandwiches and chicken.
Melford started the second innings with excellent opening bowlers who would force Roberts and Hodge to summon on all their experience and keep the ball on the ground and head over the ball.
The first few overs were faulty uneventful, with just the odd cover drive or on drive along the deck from the ever reliable Roberts.
Sadly Hodgy lost his cool and slapped a shot off the back foot in the air to point and the rot started. The skipper continued his awful form and was caught to an extremely loose shot for a dismal duck. Ziaf followed for 6 and trouble was on the horizon. This is when the mighty really come into their own and This was the case as Roberts sought to consolidate and take the team out of the relegation zone. And boy, he didn't disappoint. Another sensational innings only to be caught on the boundary from a rare shot in the air. Mention should go to Steve, Niall and Carter for their contributions, but surely the damage was already done.
