Hartest and Coldham Hall CC 264 for 5
B Atkinson 124, N Hannan 64 Not Out, P Richards 22.
Cavendish CC 205 All Out
Dickie Pearson 5-61, Ben Readman 3 -60.
The Captain lead the team to victory by example, starting first thing with players dropping out through illness and injury.
He lost the toss and Cavendish put Hartest and Coldham Hall into bat, the skipper said he would have batted.
Two early wickets which brought into bat the skipper and for his first appearance of the season our good friend Niall Hannan, the two of them put on 149 run partnership with Captain Ben Atkinson hitting 13 sixes and numerous fours.
Total sixes for the club stands at 51, 33 from the skipper.
Niall Hannan's innings was of great significance and played a foil to the skipper while he was there and then took on the mantel of leading the team to the score it ended with plus his first maiden fifty, plus ending up on a marvellous 64 not out, terrific job, super well done.
Peter Richards turned back the hands of time, Adam Ant style, stand and deliver, a quick fire 22 including a couple of sixes.
Cavendish were guilty of dropping quite a few catches, could have been a completely different story had they held on, one was terrific attempt one handed on the boundary but could not hang on in control.
After 40 overs the team had accumulated 264, Richard Carter impressed in a late cameo role of 14 not out and then it was tea time.
First a big thank you to Dave and Dickie, Armstrong & Pearson, sounds like a comedy duo, but the tea was lovely and thank you to Rosie Roberts who helped dish up and helped generally as always and I hope won't go unnoticed.
I heard of another congratulations today that of player Jack Armstrong has got engaged, well done and to the Armstrong family, great news, best wishes from all the club members.
One point is that we have two homes coming up, not this week but two back to back which are not covered tea wise, it is looking more like a bring our own tea unless anyone can either do a full tea or a couple can share another tea please, I know its awkward but a necessity, please get in touch with the skipper.
After tea the skipper lead the spin attack with Nick Rutter and himself opening the bowling, they bowled quickly through the overs but the opening pair for Cavendish scored quite well even with a large total to aim for to achieve a victory.
Both Finch and Douglas played well and just before twenty overs the man, the tea man, not the pie man, but the bowler man, Dickie Pearson bowled Finch for 49, bringing in the dangerous Captain of Cavendish, his first ball was an appeal but he was given not out but Dickie Pearson got him next ball, bowled.
104 opening partnership for no wickets lost two very quickly, and the wickets tumbled steadily from then on in, Dickie got his first five wicket haul with his last ball of his ten overs, yep Niall "safe hands" Hannan caught a difficult catch to secure the five wicket haul, it went along with is earlier catch, good day for "safe hands" Hannan.
Ben Readman bowled well and got not a lot, he bowled some indifferent balls and took three wickets, great stuff Ben, we are pleased to have you play for us at Hartest and Coldham, I hope your enjoying it, its fun in the sun!
Richard Carter a mention - there, did it, a mention.......... but in fact he performed exceptionally well behind the stumps with the gloves on, he performed admirably except when he said to the skipper well bowled Ben, promptly then bowled a full toss which was despatched to the boundary.
Dave Armstrong tidied up the end of Cavendish innings with a disputed full toss, Yorker, Ill let you and Nicko argue that one!
Cavendish were not a million miles away from the chase and they were very pleasant bunch of guys to play against, they will be difficult on their own patch I am sure, which we will not have long to find out as Hartest and Coldham Hall CC next game is against Cavendish for the return fixture.
One thing I forgot was that the opener M Douglas played very well and got a very good 101, it was safe hands that got him.
In a brief round up, a team performance where most of the time the fielding was pretty good but the stand outs are the skipper whose 124 laid the platform, Niall Hannan to secure it and well done for his maiden fifty, plus Dickie Pearson five wickets, however without the other eight players this would not matter a jot, a good team performance.
Lastly a thank you to Titch Copping who was willing to turn out and play as we were short again due to injury and illness, that spirit is what will keep the club afloat and running, please can we have as in Oliver , MORE!!!!
A final lastly and a mention for Judith who has gone to the golfing fraternity and actually won a prestigious competition today, the Jo Scott tournament and a big well done to her and son today with his 124, the other one of the trio just got a swollen knee plus some swollen pride.
