Experience not Enough at Mildenhall

Hartest and Coldham Hall CC  129 all out.

M Atkinson 38, Bob Rush 35, J Armstrong 25.

R Ovormore  5 Overs, 3 Maidens, 6 Runs, 5 Wickets. First Game.

Mildenhall II   132 for 2

B Tippett  48 Not Out.

Captain for the day Mark Roberts lost the toss and Mildenhall asked Hartest and Coldham Hall to bat on a wicket which the day before produced 500 runs.

Hartest and Coldham had six player in their fifties one about to join that club this year but with all this experience and the welcome return of Bob Rush it fell very short of troubling the home team.

Mildenhall had a new player making his debut and with his first ball got a wicket and subsequently continued in the same vein dismissing five in his spell leaving Hartest and Coldham at 19 for five in ten overs with the only early resistance coming from Bob Rush.

Mildenhall to their credit blooded a few youngsters into the attack including Kayleigh Francis and she bowled very well along with  M Haywood but it did make batting a bit easier hence the lower order started to put a few runs on the board.

Jack Armstrong was a victim of Francis at 65 for Six when Mark Atkinson joined Bob Rush who was in fine form but with no match practise plus quite a warm day Bob finally holed out for a creditable 35.

M Atkinson had the tail left very similar to last week and he targeted 125 initially to get the batting points as the score when he swung the bat to get extra runs was 129 which was never going to be enough on such a good batting track.

After tea Mildenhall started very fast and took some risks but a fast outfield saw them very quickly get to 51 before a father and son combination from Dave and Jack Armstrong [Dave the catcher] removed Francis for 18.

Nick Rutter the spin king had come on to stem the flow of runs which he did take the other opener Lornell 26 only three runs later.

Mildenhall players Ready and Tippett fairly raced away after they had got their eye in and although a few bowlers tried they fared no better with Jack Armstrong coming out well with ten good solid overs and Bob Rush very flexible behind the wickets with the gloves.

William Bryant came on to bowl one ball before Mildenhall cruised over the winning line to win by 8 wickets, the early damage done when Ovormore wiped out the top order really was the catalyst in how the match was lost.
