Should have won but Lost V Nowton

Nowton 121  All Out

Cacchioli 38,  A Ward 19,

J Armstrong 3-27, M Roberts 3-48,

Hartest and Coldham Hall 102 All Out

B Atkinson 40, R Nunn 17,

J Walker 4-20

Captain Ben Atkinson won the toss and a on very damp pitch decided to field first in this Division Three League match against near neighbours Nowton.

This proved to be a good choice and the first half of the match Hartest and Coldham were in total control with Richard Carter bowling a tight line in his ten over spell taking two wickets for 11 runs a superb effort and backed up by a good fielding display all round for the entire innings.

Peter Richards and Mark Roberts kept the Nowton score down so much so they only scored their first boundary after twenty overs, however M Cacchioli hung in and scored a very slow 38 before being stumped by Ben Atkinson at wicket keeper also taking two catches during the match.

Jack Armstrong came back towards the end of the Nowton innings and cleaned up the tail leaving Nowton on 121 but from being 50 for 6 those last four wickets scrapping up to 121 was to prove costly in the end.

After tea Roberts and the welcome return of Steve Ryder went into bat with high hopes of a home victory but Ryder played on for two and Roberts was out for four going for a big strike in his flamboyant way to a good catch at mid off.

This brought Captain Ben Atkinson to the crease and it needed a good innings to get the victory required and he delivered some thunderous shots got him a quick fire 40 with Richard Carter keeping his end up.

His demise with a faint edge behind at 48 for three suddenly saw the target look a lot harder to achieve with Peter Richards scoring 13 and Richard Nunn first game in about 15 years played well and nearly crossed that line to victory but the pace of J Walker was telling and breaking partnerships up at vital times.

Richard Nunn finally run out of partners with D Armstrong going for 13 the rest crumbled quickly and Nowton had won the game where the home team maybe ruing those extra runs at the end of the innings and losing to many wickets in the early part of the chase.

Next week another home game against Risby at the Richards Oval with a start time of 1.30 pm.
